If Ingram keeps this up, it might be worth knowing that his contract voids if the AP selects him as first-team All NFL.

Meaning he could be a free agent after this season I assume? And with Zeke getting suspended it’s a possibility

That's interesting, and kind of sucks for the Saints. But good for him if he does.

I get this is for his benefit, but what about a hypothetical where he gets first team then tears or breaks something in the playoffs. Does it still void, basically screwing him, or is it his option?

Ingram has one year left on his contract after this year. If Ingram is selected to the AP first team all NFL this year then he can become a free agent, voided his final year of his contract.

It’s an incentive base for him basically. He balls out and he becomes a free agent basically

It's basically an incentive in his contract that says if he outperforms his current deal then he immediately gets to cash in by signing a new deal with the Saints or someone else.

2018 also voids if he is voted to the Pro Bowl this year, which is much easier to do.

It would have also voided if he was voted to the pro bowl in 2015 or 2016.

So he would need a new contract by the Super bowl?

Hunt and Fournette aren't far behind in that conversation either.

If he outperforms all those guys then give it to him cause he earned it.

frick overpaying him. He leaves and we can get AP back for a decent contract. With Kamara on the cheap why overpay?

This explains why Ingram signed such a team - friendly contract.

Yeah, that's a great idea.

Let's replace Ingram with a guy averaging 3.0 yards per carry.

Do you seriously believe AP this year is anywhere near Mark Ingram much less what will be left of him next year?

Not really. Next year is his highest salary, so it was moreso because that was the market, and if he earns the void he can cash in on one more payday while a year younger.

He wasn't getting more than $4 mil per anywhere. No one was really that year. It was likely the most devalued year for running backs ever.
