3rd and longs and late half/game situations sure, but drafting a guy in the 2nd to only come in on maybe 25% of plays in the 2nd round isn't a great idea.
That's a reasonable argument, but I'm not convinced he would be limited to those plays. I just think he'd excel in that role.

I could totally see this and I hope it doesn't happen. That "great Clemson DL" sucked arse. They got manhandled by LSU's worst OL ever.
Some of the responses here sometimes are funny. Clear that many judge a player by the one game they saw them play against LSU.

You fool! Be quiet. It is a consensus among many analysts that clemson’s DL greatly underperformed the entire season. I do not want to draft him.

I hope they don’t reach for a pass rusher in the 2nd and we end up stuck with another dud like the Notre Dame guy or even worse a Kikaha

IF he can play a bigger role, then yeah he is worth a look in the 2nd. Getting a good pressure guy is always high on the list. But they have to think he can also contribute in the run game meaningfully, otherwise teams will just check out of a pass and run right at him, making him useless on anything but obvious passing downs.

I don't know him well enough to say if he can contribute in the run game.

Based on consensus rankings, Cashius Howell, Zion Young, and Gabe Jacas would not be reaches at pick 42. You can maybe add R Mason Thomas to that list, though I wouldn't. Some are down on Young, some had him in the 1st. I never saw Howell make it to the mid 2nd.
