What caliber of player do y'all think Lelito will be?

Is he just a stop gap untill we find a better option in the draft.

Will he be a 5 to 7 year, good but not great starter.

Or could he develop into something close to a Jeff Faine or a Jonathan Goodwin in their primes with us.

He seems to have good athletic ability for his position.

How good does he need to be? Serious question. It seems like we ask our centers to be able to make clean snaps, and not immediately get pushed into Brees' lap.
I'd say Lelito can definitely hold his position long enough.

I wonder if the undrafted guy (his ex teammate, the award-winning D-II center)is a solid enough blocker to hold up against NFL NTs. He should have the center-specific skills down pat. Might be our intended starter by 2015, if he can make the team this season.

Not sure why some are down on Goodwin, he held his own in the playoff game against Carolina and basically dominated Star Lotulelei.

Somebody pointed out his age- he's 36 now. Even if we do resign him, that's a 1-2 year bandaid at most, and still need another in the pipeline.

How much do we ask our center to do in blocking? It really seems like ours are expected to make a clean snap, and get in the way of nose tackles and middle linebacker blitzes. Just clog things up. I figure the guards clean up the rest.

Evidently the most important positions in football is Quarterback, Center and then Kicker. Without these things, the football goes nowhere in life.

just that they didn't draft anyone tells me they must have some faith in him. How good is to be seen. I always think of Bushrod with these kinda guys. He was a 4th Rd pick. I dunno if he even had any snaps outside of special teams his first two years. Then year 3 he is the left tackle starter with no significant Plan B on the roster at all. Uh, we went to the SB in his first year too btw. I dunno know who could even be the #2 C now. So, someone else signed wouldn't be a surprise.

He replaced injurd Evans in the Falcons game in the same week his grandmother who raised him died. Brees sited him as having a phenomenal game.

Hey your right. Without the center the football does go nowhere!

DLP stunk in the run game no matter how meaningless you think center is.

In fact center is so meaningless CSP dumped DLP like a burning pile of sh!t.

They want a better run game and they think Tim is that guy.

Maybe Lelito will be the guy, and at this point hopefully he is. I'm just tired of hearing "We don't need a great Center when we have two Pro Bowl Guards." IMO, having a shitty Center hurts Evans and Grubbs, more-so than having Evans and Grubbs overcoming a shitty Center. I know both guys made the Pro Bowl last year, but they both didn't play as well as we know they can, at least consistently. That can be blamed on Evans' injury, having Charles Brown on the line, etc., but having two guys play the position of three isn't an advantage.

This repetitive center strategy talk is captivating.
