Jim Finks was an idiot who got lucky when the USFL folded and that league's best coach and the core of the best team fell right into his lap.
After that he made a bunch of stupid moves because practically every other GM in the league was smarter than him.

he was a vast improvement over the guys that were hear before him
that said the times as well as the job changed so much over the years its hard to fairly judge the guys from the past to the guys today (speaking in terms of the whole league)
how much of what he did was him vs how much was just pure luck in the draft vs how much was directly due to the talent evaluation guys saying who to draft over others. its a big house of cards and i think its unfair for GMs to get too much credit or blame when things go good or bad but in the end they are in charge so it is how it is.

Fink was a great impact but ridding us of John Mecom as an ower was a God send.
