I don't want that thing coming anywhere near here. Not just because I now own a house, but it means alot of extra work.

Lafayette can definetly handle a big storm, the surrounding cities not so much, which applies directly to me....
Alejandro may be acting dramatic, but he is right in the fact that this could be the nail in the coffin for the city which is just flat out depressing to think about. If it gets too close I might even pull for it to hit my area as we can handle it.

Actually, the storm could help New Orleans. Think about it, if the levees hold up, pumps work, and there is no catastrophic damage done to the city, that may help bring back business to NO. It may prove to people and businesses that may have been hesitant before this storm that it's ok to come back here. It is a BIG test for New Orleans to see if we have become stronger and made strides to prevent Katrina from happening again.
Just trying to put a positive spin on it, that's all.

I really appreciate that, whodatfan. I like the way you think. I hope we don't get to find out but it's a unique point of view.

How can you possibly think that, considering Katrina made landfall as a cat3?

I agree. It really doesn't matter what category it is. What matters is the speed of the thing. If it makes landfall and sits stagnant, it could dump 30 to 40 inches of rain and that in itself could be catastrophic. So, I think that people shouldn't pay attention as much to the size, but to the speed and path.
Look at what it did last night. They lost the eye and couldn't even track the damn thing. I woke up this morning and that bitch was moving south. South? Just goes to show you, don't put all your faith in early forecasts. It is even weaker now, and with the high level pressure front pushing down on the gulf, It may even steer the thing towards Cancun, Mexico. That's my prediction, even though it hasn't made it into the Gulf yet.
I know it will intensify, and it is slower, and that's not a good thing. So we'll just have to play the wait and see game. Hopefully, it won't make a northern turn till late in the game, but who the hell knows.
I just want my Saints to come home for Sundays opener!! What the hell are we gonna do if this damn thing keeps them away from the Dome?

I agree that the Saints/Bucs game is a huge game for this franchise and this city.
If the game has to be moved to the city that shall not be named, it would be just a huge blow to our pride and morale.
I hope if any game switching is necessary we'll just be able to flip home dates with Tampa Bay.
