The league's public explanation of this odd dichotomy is that Williams has been barred from employment, and this allows him to do what he wants.
This is so insane, and guys like Schefter and Peter King will write their articles about it while blowing Goodell so there's no questioning him on WTF he's doing. Just a copy and paste of what he wants them to write.

They're saying Payton is suspended, so he cant go to games. Williams on the other hand is banned from ever being employed in the NFL again, so its ok for him to go to games.
I'm not saying it isnt stupid, but there is a little difference between those two coaches positions.

It's a super-thin distinction pretty much only a lawyer would appreciate. In the real world, it's BS. Goodell's fooling no one; the problem is, it's pretty clear he just doesn't care.

Really bad move by Goodell. The only way this is okay is if Williams is perma-banned from the NFL. Even then, it's still a bad move since the NFL can also ban fans from attending games for misconduct.

I agree with this.

I agree with this even more.

Exactly. They found a hole to bury their shite in. Problem is that shite still stinks even if its covered up.

The problem with lawyers sometimes (and it's clear that a lawyer came up with this "rationale") is that they think they're so clever and that no one will see through their BS. No wonder judges hate them.

They know everyone will see through it, but as long as they and their client are legally absolved from liability it doesn't matter if everyone knows their motives.

What if the rumors are true and Payton's suspension is going to be reduced?
If it's reduced to 8 games, he would return for the home game against the Falcons, FWIW...

I dont think words could describe my excitement if this happened. Those circumstances have the makings of legendary greatness.

I mentioned this on the MSB, and I hope you're right, that this is a prelude to a reduction/elimination of suspensions for all players and coaches. I just don't have any reason to think so-the league's explanation does not make it seem that this is anything but a singular case. I expect the players suspension to come down this week and to be maybe lessened, but still too much.

I am surprised more of the media hasn't picked up on this as being just a little...strange perhaps? You scratch my back, I scratch yours?? That is what it all appears to be...

Well, that's because his affidavit proves that it was Vilma's fault all along. He said he had nothing to do with it and Roger believed it.
