Very nice move by the Saints to have both bands perform in advance of the Bayou Classic. I thought the tributes were well received by the fans and timing of the performances was just right to allow the start of the 2nd half.

Nice? That was the best halftime at the "dome in a long time

I know I'll get downvoted for this, but seeing as I don't really give a flying frick about it, I'm going to step in and say that I've heard both bands, and they both suck. I've been in both high school and college marching bands and I think I can tell a good band from a shitty one. I don't even think Southern or Grambling know the meaning of tuning their instruments before they play.

I tried to watch it since I let my kids have the tix this game, but my word, did he video this with a flip phone? It was making my head hurt

Exactly, I was trying to focus my eyes...
Can't believe that's the only video they could find...

I couldn't agree anymore. I have heard both many times through the years and they have always sounded like shite. Only thing they do is have a contest to see who can play the loudest.

Southern and Grambling’s bands sound like this:
BBBBBLLLLLLLAAAAAAAHHHHHHN
BBBBBLLLLLLLUUUUUUNNNNNNNH
BBBBBBBLLAAAAAAAAAAAALNNNH
BBBBBLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHN
Loud as frick, with no substance.... it’s cool to listen to during the games, or if you were on the field playing... but their music for the most part is shite

In 1972, 31 members of the Southern University band were invited to perform at Radio City Music Hall in New York for two-weeks. The band was asked to stay an additional three weeks and performed a total of 140 times with the Radio City Music hall Rockettes and symphony orchestra. Also, during the trip to New York City, the band opened for the Newport Jazz Festival in Harlem.
Since then, the Southern University band has performed at five Super Bowls, four Sugar Bowls, three U.S. presidential inaugurations, the Rose Bowl Parade, ahe Southern University band has also performed in Reliant Stadium, Yankee Stadium Coliseum and the Special Olympics.
the band has also appeared on several national television shows, two Spike Lee productions, an NFL Films documentary, and a Jonas Brothers music video.
It’s ok I’m sure you have no rhythm. You prefer Dixie where you struggle to catch the beat while clapping lol.
Southern University is and always has been the best band in this whole country. They play loudly because that’s what they are performing for. They have a classical band that plays soft but only for those competitions. Who do you think LSU learned to play neck from?

Do you even know where the song "Neck" came from?

The rendition played by the band is from Cameo. Who doesn’t know where Neck is from? Just make sure you put some respect on Grambling and Southern’s band.

Kudos, a lot of people don't know...

Yeah, I remember hearing this same type of shite said about our band when I was in high school. One of the dumbest attempted insults was from some clowns saying we didn't know how to read music....that our band director just came in and told us what key to play in and that's how we played our music. Yeah, those same people weren't too happy when we showed up at LMEA and got all 1's including sight reading. I swear, so many snowflakes think their style is the "right" style or the only style to play. People stayed in the their seats at halftime to watch us and bands like us. They go get their beer when we get off the field. And they wish they could do what we do on the field.

I played in a Jazz ensemble at Delgado before transferring to LSU to finish my degree. I didn't play at LSU because I didn't want to do the style of play that they did.

My little brother played in something like that at La Tech. He was in the marching band for only a year but didn’t care for it. He then played in a jazz ensemble.
