methinks there isn't a lotta diff on WR need among whodats. Some see a 1st Rder. I can't myself unless it was overwhelming value. 3rd or later and sho, have at it. Landry is a great example of WR quality you can get 3rd Rd.

I agree. I am not saying there can't be an upgrade, but it is by far not a major need this team has to fill with a 1st or 2nd round pick. The issues with the offense have a lot more to do with scheme, injuries, and poor coaching (WR/OL perhaps) than with lack of talent.

I'm down on the OL coaching angle. dlP never looked this poor before.
Where numbers do prove sumpin...
Brees sacks by year since 2006- 18, 16, 13, 20, 25, 24, 26, and now 37. As Brees turns 35 seeing that number turnaround is my biggest offseason priority.

I think coaching has a huge reason for it. I think it was a mistake to switch to zone blocking at times on runs unless you have a guru there to coach them. Ingalls hadn't coached OL in a number of years and it's not like DLP is injured. Kromer was just that great of an OL coach. I really wish they'd kept him and moved him to OC and let Carmichael go once Payton came back. He was way more important to the team and deserved the promotion.

I hear ya but I don't think they boot the backup play caller. One thing good we know is that Payton is never hesitant to replace anyone not performing up to par. Okay, I'll add Greg McMahon as a caveat. Would not be disappointed in a change there but don't expect it after this long.

True.
Ellard might be worth chucking too. I know he had a good history over with the Rams, but that was honestly after the Greatest show on Turf started dissipating, and not at their peak.
I think we are missing Curtis Johnson more than many will ever appreciate.

To me, a great QB makes avg. WRs good, not the other way around. I like Colston. I like Moore. However, I don't think we ever hear of those two guys if they didn't play with Brees. Conversely, guys like Moss and C. Johnson were/are such freak athletes that they likely would have been great players on any team. Those, IMO are your first round worthy types of WRs. Rare size/speed combinations
If I'm taking a WR or RB in the first round, he better have off-the-chart physical talent that clearly separates him from other guys at his position. The same can be said for RB. There are a lot of great skill players in the draft. There aren't alot of next level big-men to go around (DL and OL). There's a reason that great DTs, DEs and OTs fly off the board in the first round. Teams know they likely won't be able to get that caliber of player later in the draft.

man o man, I'm starting to feel like some normalcy is invading the board

Most scouts were very surprised that Clemson linebacker Vic Beasley, who had 13 sacks in 2013, decided not to enter the draft. Beasley was certainly on the radar screens, big-time, of 3-4 teams in the second half of the first round
there are some now who might think more of Greg Robinson and have nudged the Auburn early-entry prospect slightly ahead of Matthews at the tackle spot. The order will still be shuffled at tackle in the months of evaluation that remain, but Robinson has made a significant impression on scouts to whom NFP has spoken. As for the tackle spot in general, it probably has taken a step back with the decisions of some players – such as Cameron Erving (Florida State), La’el Collins (LSU) and Cedric Ogbuehi (Texas A&M) – to stay in school. And certainly Alabama’s Cyrus Kouandjio did not finish the season very strong, either. Still, while there might not be as many tackles chosen in the first round as anticipated a few weeks ago, the depth remains good and it still is viewed as a position of strength.
----mockers gonna hafta update

He's a free agent. McCown is better. No surprise if Griffin moves up to #2 either

I agree, this is where a mistake was made by Payton/Loomis when Meachem was drafted. I like Meach but I viewed it as a mistake immediately for the reasons you have stated. He did not possess that rare freakish ability for a first round pick (even though it was late first round).
There are so many WRs flooding the league at this point due to the pass first mentality of the league.....I feel that solid receivers can be had in the mid rounds as well.
I feel that we have two guys that can stretch the field on the outside (Stills and Morgan). Morgan is the wildcard however with his injury history.
If we are going to take a receiver....I would rather take a "Landry type" with great hands and toughness to go across the middle and help Colston, and allow Still to be the explosive receiver of the group.
O-line is more important IMHO due to Drew's age and the increase in sack totals. I know that everyone is enamored with Armstead, but we only have a small sample size. Hopefully he is the answer at LT, but I am still concerned with the line play. It could be (as stated above) more about the oline coach than the talent.

in general draft talk, 102 college players are entering the draft early.
This is an rapidly evolving issue. First, the NFL enacted the 3 years out of HS rule. It works but I hate it on principle. I am good enough for this job but I'm not out of HS long enough? bullshite says LeBron James.
They adjusted the rookie salaries down. Good move IMO. Rookie Sam Bradford didn't need to be making more than Aaron Rodgers. BUT it is having the effect of college players jumping sooner. The mentality is you're not gonna get paid until your second contract so it's better to get there as soon as ya can.
Prediction: this trend continuing will have any colege player worth a shite leaving after two years. I'm game for that in the NFL. It will lower the college game play IMO. You'll only have a guy (like Mettenberger) for two years then he is gone. So, more n more freshmen will be playing and starting.

The bold is an excellent analysis. Not many people were talking about this prior to the rookie cap being instilled. For the record I agree with the rookie cap, but there were some unintended consequence.

Junior Galette has been awesome, but New Orleans needs a potent pass-rusher across from him.
Ummm Cam Jordan

As successful as Juneyah was I think they will be happy with Butler on the other side. Don't see the OLB being a heavy push for need. Take one for great value fo sho- and that is possible at #27- just nowhere near the need factor as last year.
HEY- for those keeping score, the final tally...
Jarvis Jones 14 games, 8 starts, 31 tackles, 10 assists, 1 SACK
Thank you Mickey & Company for being smarter than us!!!

fresh from Draft Daddy
-a proven solid mocker
27. New Orleans Saints - OT Cyrus Kouandijo, Alabama
The Saints have trouble winning on the road because they're too reliant on their passing game, so they seek an equalizer by adding a physical specimen to their OL to help the running game and take some pressure off of Brees.
sensible possibility, if Strief walks then it makes all the more sense. Another added plus: only 20 years old

I would be disappointed with an OT in the first honestly.
