He wouldn’t have hired DA. Even before Payton all of our coaching hires had some type passionate leadership skills even if they didn’t always translate to on field success. DA is the most disengaged and nonpassionate hesd coach in the history if this franchise.

That was with Lee Zurik and then he has his TV station hire him as their chief anchor and investigative reporter.

Talk about the irony on that one.

Business men like him don’t look at what they are making at the time. He was talking about losing money that is there to be made that he was losing out on

Of course he was making money but losing out on money that could have been made with better deals that others had in similar situations

All in all he was a good owner that ended up keeping the saints where they belonged.

Dude was ranting like a crazy uncle at the thanksgiving dinner table. All that was missing was waving a turkey leg around.

At the time it seemed like the state could not afford to help them out, or at least they argued that. Benson was probably shocked at the idiotic mindset that the state had. Imagine that you are a successful business owner used to dealing with business minded people, and then you hit a brick wall with the politicians with a short term mindset.

Mike Foster was the Governor then right? He was more about riding a Harley on a Sunday than watching football. That must not have helped either.

After Katrina and the dome renovations, everyone saw the positives that come out of investing in the Saints and sports in general. The next renovation that was done in 2011 was approved without issue. Thank you Katrina

The thing was that at that time, Louisiana couldn't afford to foot the Saints' bill for future stadium plans. This was largely due to the fact that the Saints already had one of the best sweetheart deals in all of sports. This is why Benson was so popular among the other owners. They could go to their respective politicians and say, Louisiana is dirt poor and look at all of the things that the Saints are getting. Step up your game or we'll start looking elsewhere.

The statue of Paul Tagliabu should be in front of the Superdome NOT that fricker Benson! He was ready ,willing and able to move the Saints to San Antonio and would have if the Paul and the NFL would not have stepped in to save us.

Yup, and the city is far worse now than after the billions in federal aid to rebuild the city.

There will be no lifeline from the NFL next owner who wants to move the Saints. Elections matter NOLA residents, vote better for people who can at minimum protect parked vehicles at sporting events.
