So what can we expect from a 31 year old WR? Here are some other older WRs who changed teams and what they did.

Last year Eric Decker went to the Titans at age 30. He had 54 receptions and 1 TDs. That was good enough for second best for the Titans on a run heavy team.

In 2004 Keyshawn Johnson joined the Cowboys at age 32. He had 71 receptions and 6 TDs. The next year he had 71 receptions and 6 TDs.

Terrell Owens went to Philly at age 31. He went on putting up big numbers for seven more years.

Now those are three bigger more physical WRs. But in 2004 Joe Galloway (closer to Sanders in size) was 33 when he went to Tampa Bay. He only caught 33 balls and 5 TDs. It should be noted his QBs were Brian Griese and Brad Johnson. The next year he had 83 receptions with 7 TDs. Galloway played five more years with two more years of good production and three of only a handful of receptions. Very impressive.

Derrick Mason is also a smaller WR who went to Baltimore at age 31. He played for the Ravens for six more years with 86, 68, 103, 80, 73 & 61 receptions. He totaled 5,777 yards with 29 TDs for Baltimore.

Wes Walker went to Denver at age 32 where he played for two years and had 122 receptions for 1242 yards and 12 TDs.

Steve Smith Sr went to Baltimore at age 35 and played for three years. He had 195 receptions for 2,534 yards and 14 TDs for the Ravens.

Other WRs who changed teams and did well after turning 30 are Chad Johnson, Rany Moss, Jerry Rice, TJ Houshmandzadeh and Anquan Bolden.

So history says Sanders can still be a productive WR. I think the lack of a regular offseason will hurt Sanders in 2020, but we don’t need him to be the guy. Actually, I’d expect him to be behind MT13, Kamara and Cook in receptions. And I’m hoping T. Smith steps up and is health this year. However, if he could have between 35-50 receptions and help move the chains, I think he can really help us as a reliable WR...unlike Ginn who was fast but never reliable.

Your thoughts?

Watching his highlights from last year nothing says he's slowing down. The guy runs really nice routes and If he gets on the plus side of 60 receptions our offence will be humming along.

I honestly expect a Brees injury somewhat early from a late hit, or two, and the. Winston coming in and throwing 25 INTs.

I honestly expect big things from him if Drew can actually get comfortable with him. Drew seems to rely heavily on guys he is very comfortable with which is fine, but . With the way this off-season is playing out I’m worried that won’t happen.

Drew has been in Denver throwing balls to Sanders. I’m not concerned with two vets like that

57 catches, 837 yds, 14.7 ypc and 7 tds

CGM “only” about 110 catches

Kamara/Cook combined around 148

WRs/TEs 3, 4, 5 etc 120

You can’t really compare those guys to Sanders situation. Everyone’s body is different and Sanders was playing at a high level just last year and didn’t withstand any significant injuries. Also a lot of those guys suffered bc they went to bad teams to make more money at the end of their careers. Saints have an elite offense and qb. I also don’t think the stats will be a true indication of the value he will bring to the team. We have alot of playmakers and defenses are going to have a challenge trying to cover them all. He will help free up other players

Not sure about that number...

ESPN

quote:

even if you project Sanders for modest totals such as 56 catches, 746 yards and six touchdowns (as ESPN fantasy analyst Mike Clay does), that could be enough to finally push the Saints over the top.

But will anyone else step up in the Saints’ receiving corps once Thomas, Sanders, running back Alvin Kamara and tight end Jared Cook gobble up an estimated 27-28 targets per game?

Will this finally be the year Tre'Quan Smith makes a consistent impact? Will New Orleans find a role on offense for last year’s breakout return specialist Deonte Harris? Can a hidden gem emerge from the jam-packed battle for the final one or two roster spots?

quote:

Sanders also proved what a quick study he is by fitting in smoothly with the San Francisco 49ers following a midseason trade last year -- though both Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. and receivers coach Ronald Curry mentioned that the things Sanders did with Manning in Denver from 2014 to '15 are most similar to what he might do in New Orleans.

"He'll be able to play inside and outside," Carmichael said. "Obviously, there are some differences between maybe what he's been doing as of late to going back to a few years ago. But again, one thing that [Saints coach Sean Payton] is really big on is making sure that we're putting those guys in the position where they can be successful.”

quote:

"We have a vision for him on third down and how we can use him, maybe taking some of that option stuff off of [Kamara's] plate and some of the stuff that [former Saints deep threat] Ted Ginn was doing, double moves, transitional stuff."

Sanders averaged 8.6 targets per game during his prime with the Broncos from 2014 to '18, but six per game is a realistic estimate in New Orleans.

The Saints should use Sanders a lot like they used receivers Lance Moore and Willie Snead in the past. Moore averaged six targets per game during his prime from 2008 to '12, with highs of 7.6 in 2008 and 6.9 in 2012. Snead averaged 6.7 in 2015 and 6.9 in 2016. But the Saints threw the ball a lot more during those eras -- and they didn’t have a No. 1 receiver like Thomas dominating so much of the target share.
