I predict that C-Ryan Taylor, an UDFA rookie is going to make the Practice Squad.

I got to watch Taylor a lot last year when he was the starting center for UCLA. He ended up making Honorable Mention on the Coaches All-Pac 10 team. I think he has the potential to start one day in the NFL. He has good size and speed. The knock on him right now is that he isn't strong enough; that he can't anchor and is too easily pushed off his base. Maybe with a couple of years on some team's practice squad he would have the time to get stronger. He's a smart kid and the UCLA coaches were always talking about what a good leader he was. He sort of reminds me of Todd McClure from LSU.

I think Taylor makes the Practice Squad this year. And if Kruetz only stays for one year I think Taylor could make the regular roster next year as a backup center. I think he could be strong enough to start by around year 4. He could end up having a similiar career path to that of Jonathan Goodwin IMO.

i think if we didnt have Tennant, you could be on to something. But my intuition tells me that there is no way we hold on to a guy in order to develop him into a backup for a few years. Too many talented guys on our roster. Then again, i could be totally off. Wont be the first time.

I love how every move on this organization makes is calculated. They don't all work but a lot of people them do.

That's the purpose of the practice squad: to develop players who have potential but who aren't ready yet. Taylor won't make the active roster this year, but as I said in the OP I'm predicting he lands a spot on the Practice Squad.

i know what its for. We have our center of the future already on the roster. I doubt we keep someone who will be a backup Center when we have a lot of talent on our roster already.

we have an overload of talented RBs, WRs, DBs, and LB's. And almost assuredly keep a QB on there as well.

its hard to see a marginal Center prospect on there, but funnier things have happened.

We've always carried two centers for as long as I can remember. If Kreutz retires after this year, or is not resigned, then we'd need a backup to Tennant.

no doubt we'll carry 2 centers at all times, but one can easily be acquired through FA or the draft

i just think we have too many talented fringe players as well as positional needs that we dont keep a C on the PS.

Time will tell. My money says Taylor ends up on the Practice Squad.

not a bad plan, all weighted on what he shows in 3 more weeks

another name I'll throw in the mix is long snapper Kyle Nelson. I haven't seen him overtake Drescher with the ones yet. His wildcard value might be that he was a TE at NM St. This week he took reps there when Humphrey was dinged. Any players that can fill multiple roster roles you are helping your team. Singular role value is what might have a few vets packing their bags on the cut dates.
