Drew Brees is quite obviously the most important Saints player in recent memory, if not ever. He deserves to be paid a salary with the elite quarterbacks in this league.

That being said, how much do we expect him to demand? Is Brees going to fight tooth and nail to get every penny he can, or will he be willing to negotiate a deal that appropriately pays him for his value while also allowing the team to have a little money to use on other players, kind of like how Brady worked his contract?

In my mind, there is absolutely no way we let Brees walk. If that means making him the highest paid quarterback in the league, then I guess so be it. But what will Drew demand and what will he be willing to settle for?

Obviously no one knows with any certainty, just a topic for discussion.

He gets what Manning/Vick/Brady got on average unless he decides he would like to be highest paid

I'd say 5yr.-$100 million is about right. $50 million guaranteed? Prolly renegotiate after 3 to spread some of the remaining money out. frick if I know

Tom Benson should give Drew whatever he wants...I would give him a piece of the fricking team if he wanted it.

This.. but its not going to be significantly low. Brady and Peyton took less money to make sure ther was enough to bring in a quality roster, but its still going to be at least 5yr/$85-100 million.

That's just my opinion. ChewyDante and I are known for having opinions on the opposite ends of the spectrum so this should get interesting in a minute.

His personality fits this.

I'd be surprised if he wanted to be the highest paid QB and shunned the team concept. He'll get his. They won't let him walk...for sure. JMO

He is such a stand-up guy, he does not strike me as one to be greedy. Yes he is worth more money than his current contract, but I don't think he is going to REQUEST an astromical number like Brady or Manning.

I'm guessing he could get $20 million a year from the Saints, but I doubt he'll ask for that much.

I'm going to say - 6 years @ $15 mill per for a total of $90 million.

And they'll probably sweeten by paying him another $1 or $2 mill per year after that as a Saints rep.
