In what world is aj mccarron more mobile than brees

Well he's a good 5" taller. So if nothing else he'll at least see the rush coming.

1. Weak arm

This one goes 50 in the air with little air underneath it. Seldom is a QB asked to throw it further. The lack of arm strength is a myth. It isn't elite but it's more than adequate.

Under 3 minutes left in the SECCG against Georgia. He was asked to win both these on his final possession and delivered when his team was behind. On pretty big stages at that

HIm and Ingram on the same team in the pros..LOL...

I don't think he's NFL starting QB material.

I'd be okay with the Birds picking him up in a couple years after whatever team that drafts him inevitably releases him. He'd be a good backup to Matt. We just have too many needs right now in so many other places.

I would rather we get mettenberger, he seem to do pretty well with injured QBs .

Also we don't have the perfect line of Alabama McCarron is use to so he would suck and would actually have to learn how to read defenses.

Mettenberger however HAD to learn how to read all sort of defenses on the fly. He'll transition easier.

Yeldon did the work. McCarron did nothin but dump the ball.

As for McCarron, he doesn't fit Peyton's offense. He doesn't have the feet and he doesn't have a quick enough release.

Also, I wouldn't trust him behind a line that isn't solid. All of ajs career, he was never under any sort of pressure. I wouldn't trust him at all to be a QB in Peyton's offense.

Mettenberger would suck in a New Orleans offense too. He's a statue

Mett will do better in a traditional offense who runs the ball.

It takes a special sort of QB to run our offense. It's funny, because I have NO desire to draft him, but if Drew died on his way home from the movies tonight my choice to replace him would actually be JFF. He is the best fit out of the QBs available for this team.. Their offense at TAMU is pretty similar to ours and JFF honestly reminds me of Drew. Drew ran a lot in college but he was a very accomplished passer.. JFF is too. He has looked pretty good passing this year. His int's are a result of passing a lot to keep his team alive, something we are familiar with (see: 2012)

I'm not saying we should draft him, I do not want to use a pick that high on a QB. But if we had to, he would be my choice. By far.

Anyone who writes AJ off immediately needs to rethink how they evaluate QBs. There is some weird notion that he doesn't have an arm, he doesn't have a cannon, but he has an arm. He probably has the highest football IQ of any QB in this class, and his timing/anticipation is a notch above most. He has all the intangibles, and is a proven commodity in the clutch.

That said, there are only a couple of teams that he should start for year 1. His best bet may be to sit for two or three years in NE or Denver, but not here or in GB. Brees/Rodgers have too much time left, it'd be a waste.

He'll be solid, but never elite.

I try to look at him objectively but I just cannot see it. I can't see him out there throwing for 3000-4000 yards.. Just doesn't seem right.

I will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong but I think he is destined to be a career backup. Starters just have to be more.. Gunslingery. People talk about Alex Smith as a game manager but that dude still slings the rock like a pro.

Fair opinion, I just think anyone who acts like there is no chance needs to rethink that.

That screen play didn't go for 80 yards.

You can say this about most quarterbacks. Very few look good when they're getting pounded all night. That said, 13 of his first 19 touchdowns this year came against the blitz, so I really am struggling with your reasoning here.

An article written back in august by ESPN
quote:

Last season, McCarron completed 65.1 percent of his passes thrown 20 yards or more with 12 touchdowns and no interceptions. His completion percentage on such passes is better than other well-known SEC quarterbacks like Aaron Murray, Johnny Manziel and Zach Mettenberger.

quote:

Opposing defenses attempted to bring extra pressure to neutralize McCarron’s effectiveness. McCarron faced five or more pass rushers in 30 percent of his dropbacks. However, McCarron’s yards per attempt were higher when facing additional pressure (10.6 to 8.8) than when he faced a standard pass rush.

So your opinion based comments are your own right, I can't argue with the way you perceive mechanics or arm strength. I can however easily spot what fuels false information like the statement I quoted. Not only has he faced pressure throughout his career, he's thrived in the face of it

On to the subject in the OP, Brees has too much left in the tank and the saints have too many other needs to draft a QB in the first 3 rounds, which is where McCarron will be selected. Best case scenario he's a good backup in the event Drew goes down and you're able to trade him for a second round pick down the road. Worst case scenario he's a good backup in the event drew goes down and you're able to trade him for a second round pick down the road but you miss out on a lineman/linebacker/receiver that can contribute immediately.

Hilarious that McCarron gets so much hate. If Andy Daulton can be a starter in the league, then AJ McCarron most certainly can. And will.

Goes with being a Bammer. I doubt he fits the Saints scheme at QB anyway so I am glad he will get passed over here since he would get blasted for holding a clipboard wrong by the LSU fans.

He will spend a considerable amount of time working on his drops, his release, and timing after the Senior Bowl. I expect him to make a solid showing at the Combine and Pro Day. I bet he goes in the 2nd or 3rd Round to a team that will sit him under a starter for a while and let him develop or so I hope.
