Giselle makes more in a year than almost any pro American athlete. Tom should have taken like $5 million and helped his team out

you don't think the structure of the deal is important when forming an opinion

Not that critical when it's someone that likely got an offer of 14 million (at the lowest, maybe even 18 million) but wants more.

Who the hell "deserves" 23 million dollars a year to play football? I agree we should pay him what hes worth, but I'm so sick of people saying he deserves 23 million dollars.

here...you dropped your hammer and sickle

who deserves to make $100 million to work an office job? - a CEO...you know why he deserves it?...because he does his job better than anyone else and makes the company profitable....but mostly because if he doesn't get it from his employer he'll get it somewhere else.

i could walk in on Drew Brees giving my girlfriend a Cleveland Steamer and all i'd say is "let me know when y'all are done." and "who dat?" it'll take alot more than this for me to change my opinion...like murderin' babies or something

Who doesn't want more?

And don't say you or poor people would be happy to take that. If I asked anyone hey do you want $15 million or do you want to hold out for a month try to get $3 million more with their being no chance that you get less than that original $15 million what do you think they choose?

ETA and yes structure and amount of guaranteed money is REALLY important in factoring the actual worth of the contract

I believe a pro athlete has the right to get paid according to his worth. What disappoints me just a little bit, is that Drew had made comments earlier that definitely suggested he was sensitive to the cap situation and was willing to try to reach an accomodation. Sticking to $23mm with most of it counting toward the cap is a little contradictory.

Admittedly, neither I nor anyone else on the board has been sitting at the table or on the phone when discussions were being held, but that is the way things look at the moment. I still think that Brees will eventually sign with the Saints. Although, I'm slightly . . . note, I said slightly . . . concerned with the potential fallout from this so called "bounty" fiasco. I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that the Saints are going to get slammed. Hope I'm wrong.

That's exactly how I feel.

For the record I don't think less of him, because I never thought he walked on water anyway. I know Breesus was just a funny nickname, but in a way I think some fans really did have this idea in their head that he can do no wrong.

What wrong has he done? Trying to get what he feels he is worth? I wouldn't take less money to make my company more profitable so I wouldn't expect him to.

Carl Nicks said it perfectly..."If they want me here, they'll find the money."

He's considered to be one of the best guards in all of football, maybe the best. Seems fair to me that he wants to be paid like one.

Nothing in and of itself, but if he was really asking to average 23 mil a year over the first three years of the contract, then he's contradicting his earlier statements about wanting a cap/team friendly contract. In that case he's talking out of both sides of his mouth.

So it's just about getting paid, and not winning.

Of course we can find the money for him. We can pay him half of the payroll, if that's what he wants.

Uh, yeah, it's "perfect" if you're not the one trying to find the money.
