Does this make sense for New Orleans to bid on the 2024 Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl will be on Feb 4th, 2024. Fat Tuesday is Feb 11, 2024.

Wouldn't it have made sense to bid on one when Mardi Gras is later.

Like this year Mardi Gras day is March 5th, 2019.

The first week of Mardi Gras will be a week before the Super Bowl. The 2nd week of Mardi Gras will be the week after the Super Bowl.

I think your dates are off. If Sunday is the 4th, then the next Sunday would be the 11th. So a week before Mardi Gras weekend

We did bid on this year and didn’t get it. We pretty much bid every time.

Also last SB was the first weekend of parades and so they pushed the calendar up a week - had the Super Bowl - then resumed 2nd week of parades on wed. Logistically they can’t have both, too much security needed for both events.

It’s gonna make for a fun MardiGras 2024 when the Saints Victory parade is that Tuesday followed by a week of parades

They had superbowl, mardi gras, and nba all star weekend all in one month a few years ago. I think they can handle it.

This hasn't been announced yet, but they are planning on cancelling Mardi Gras in 2024 altogether.

The big parades are the weekend after the Super Bowl. It will not be a problem. I volunteer Endymion to be the platform for the Saints victory celebration.

This occurred in 2013 as well, moved the parades up a week and kept the second weekend as was.

I see how this could/would be a mess logistically, as well as for the police force. But from the overall cities POV, this is perfect. It allows the city of New Orleans to showcase its culture and prove why New Orleans should host the Super Bowl in a rotational basis. With a higher influx of corporate people within the city for the Super Bowl, this will cause these tourist to spend more money, thus strengthening the tourist economy.

Also, the last 3 Super Bowls hosted by New Orleans (2002, 2013, & now 2024) saw Fat Tuesday falling ~8-10 days after the game. And the 1997 game was only 15 days before Fat Tuesday.

Think this is more of a city designed plan to host as many people as possbile, than a coincidence.

This also is the next SuperBowl that NO had rooms available.
Supposedly there were not enough rooms available for SB in 2023.
