Beat him to it. Outside of Saints games, I plan on banning (aka boycotting) myself.

so he could put his own name in the same sentence as "player safety"

Is this sentence before or after the one about him extending the season to 18 games?

I am not trying to be a downer, but I think that if the NFL waited this long to bring down penalties for players, they most likely have their facts together or seem to think what they do have is solid enough to hold up in federal court. The NFL has lawyers and they probably look over everything the NFL office does before it commences. Although, I hope this is all false and he does resign.

Favre, who was the victim of several illegal hits,

Oh for frick's sake.

The high-low hit was the only truly illegal hit in that game, and they didn't even flag that one. It was also pretty clearly an accident since the player who went low was being blocked and stumbled into Favre's legs.

The two flags I can recall them throwing were when Hargrove "drove Favre into the ground" which of course I thought was bogus and when McCray put Favre on his arse after he handed the ball off to Harvin. The thing is, it was a reverse/fake type play and Favre was still a part of the play; he was also between McCray and the ball carrier.

I bet if he had thrown a huge block on McCray everyone would still be "oohing and ahhing" over how tough the ole' gunslinger is. Instead he got laid out and now we're the dirty ones.

Thing is, they claim for a long time was that the Saints ran a program for 3 years. When all of this first broke, we heard from some people that they did not run a program for three years, and that when the commish told them to stop ,after the NFC CG, they did. When the coach and admin penalties came out, Payton was shocked, because he knew that he wasn't running a program. Now, when the players got punished, they were punished specifically for actions that took place BEFORE the league said to shut it down. Two of the four players suspended were not with the team for all or half the time that the league claims that the Saints were running a program.

I'll reiterate: if the punishment was for running a program after the commish said to stop, then the commish would have charged players who were with the Saints during that period and they would have cited examples from that time period.

Perhaps, but based on the fact that Goodell has not shared any evidence AND they destroyed all of the Spygate evidence, the League may not want their findings being shared publicly. This could lead to an out of court settlement with reduced penalties.

Are we talking about the 2009 NFC Championship which was at the time the highest rated NFC Champ game of all time? That one Goodell?

Give the people what they want...obviously the people fricking loved the passion and violence. I hope the players wipe the floor with the league in this concussion lawsuit. This crap is misguided and too little too late.

I expect absolutely nothing to come of this.

But man I wish it would. I'd think the backlash would result in Goodell being forced to step down which would be fantastic. Not even speaking as a Saints fan here, but as a football fan. Goodell is one of the worst things to ever happen to the league.

I get trying to protect players and cover your arse, but the changes he's made and continues to make coupled with the God-like power he has is just appalling. I'm sorry, but the game of football is an inherently violent sport and these players should know what they're signing up for as any athlete should in their sport. It's by choice, no one is forcing them to play the game. I look forward to the day that Goodell does step down...I just hope the game isn't completely ruined by that time.
