Why is this a big deal, I mean he will be resigned to the practice squad again.

I agree. The only curious thing is that we're still carrying 2 kickers; I find that amazing. The irony of this that Payton sees Carney as a security blanket and yet he doesn't have enough confidence to let him kick a 40 yard field goal. Punting the ball from the enemy's 35 is something I've never seen in the NFL...not with a kicker still on the sidelines.

I'm with you on the 2 kicker deal. I think Payton is scared to get burned like he did before by releasing Carney. I think I saw that Hartley is having a foot issue and some have said when he gets healthy then Carney will be cut. Payton has confidence in him on kicking 40 yarders but not 50's. Hartley did struggle a little in pre-season.

Who are you referring to?
It can't be Carney because they punted from the 35 when 3 points would have made it a 8 point lead...that's a big deal. With a 8 point lead, the best the Rams could have done was tie the game.

Wouldn't a field goal with the ball on the 35 be about a 52 yard field goal??

That would've made it on the border of a 50 yarder and I don't think Payton is confident in Carney to make anything above 45. Also, if Carney misses it the Rams would've gotten the ball around the 40.

The ball was on the 35 and Carney uses a 6 yard set; that's a 41 yard field goal.

I give up, that would've been an fg attempt from 50 or 51 yards......

That makes no sense; you're saying that Carney would kick with the ball set down at the 50 yard line...that's 15 yards from the line of scrimmage.

No, I'm not. The f'ing ball was at the 35, plus 6 yards for the place of the ball then you have to add 10 yards for the end zone b/c the goal post is located in the back of the end zone. That my friend adds up to a 51 yard Fg attempt.

Got ya. You're saying Carney's maximum range is from the 25 yard line. That's sad.

(don't make the mistake and add the 10 yards for the goal post; that's not included in the yardage for field goals).

Since when?

quote:

The measurement of a field goal's distance is from the point where the ball was positioned for the kick by the placekicker to the goalpost. In American football, where the goalpost is in the back of the end zone, the ten yards of the end zone are also added into the distance the line of scrimmage.

Your wrong the 10 yards is added to field goals. The yardage for punts is calculated from the line of scrimage not from the 15 yards behind where they actually kick it. so a 50 yard field goal is kicked from the 40, but a 50 yard punt is actually kicked 65 yards. I used to think you were smart.

More simply put that post was an epic fail.
