Considering the team isn't sure about linebacker Jonathan Vilma's health -- one person I talked to Sunday said the fear is that Vilma's career might be over and that the team might have to place him on the IR list -- Humber is a player who could sneak into the starting lineup and have an impact in Vilma's inside linebacker spot.

Doesn't bother me much. Humber has looked like a beast and between he, Lofton, and Hawthorne I think well be fine in the middle. People forget we have Chamberlain too who was a solid player for the Rama before getting injured very early last pre-season

I'm not sure how I would feel about that. I think its probably best we just go ahead and part ways. Out with the old, in with the new.

Time for him to join the coaching staff IMO. That's basically all he'd be doing if he re-joined the team anyway

just put him on the PUP and see where he's at in 8 weeks. If he still is gimpy, IR him.

Thus the reason why he was not on my projected 53.

If Humber is starting, we are screwed. He makes a few nice tackles, but is clueless in coverage. He looks like he is not even sure what he is supposed to do.

What does PUP and IR do for the cap? Are we on the hook for Vilma either way?

What games have you been watching? He's looked like our most consistent inside lb so far. Definitely outplaying Lofton

I can't name a Saints LB'er who's good in coverage. Can you?

Now good mind you.

So. 3/4th of our offseason starting LBers on IR?

Butler, Vilma, Smith? or were Butler and Smith competing for the same spot?

we need to go in to OTAs next year with 20 Lbers on the roster.

Butler and Smith were on opposite sides. Smith was the Jack and Butler was the Sam.

He's been impressive so far in the preseason. Let's hope he holds up in the regular season.

I'm not to worried about the losses of Vilma and Smith. Both veteran injured guys who were on the way out anyway. Sad to see them go, especially to a preseason injury, but sometimes there's a silver lining. We need young talent on the Defense. Now is the time to shine.

These problems are typical of a DC on his first year. Players learning the system, old players busting down, etc...

Unfortunately we've had to deal with it 2 years in a row.

I'm going to hold my prediction that this defense is between 20-25 in the league and that puts us in the playoffs. Where anything can happen.

NO big deal. Most linebackers except for an elite few are not the best coverage guys anyway. This is why Ryan usually puts in like 4 or 5 corners/safteys 3 or 4 linebackers and 2 or 3 lineman.
