Another variable: the Saints may already know that Alvin is not coming back. If that is the case, drafting Love to play with Etienne for the first year or two makes a lot of sense.

No, no it does not. RB is not a position you need to “develop” a guy for a couple of years. It’s plug and play ESPECIALLY for a prospect like Love. Having him split time for 2 years is just wasting 2 of his prime years to produce. And while I get people are excited about the way last season ended especially the emergence of Shough this is still a team that went 6-11. Half of their wins were over the Giants, Jets and Titans. There are still plenty of holes to fill at premium positions. Using a precious top 10 pick on RB in general is a bad idea, after a big FA signing it would be a huge mistake.

I just don't want Bain.

I assume because of his arms?

Tate, Lemon, Tyson, Love, Ione, Downs...whatever. Just no Bain.

The Saints once traded all their draft picks for the year (plus a few the next year) to get a RB who was basically a bust.

That was epically stupid not to mention just lazy but at least e was drafted to be the centerpiece of the offense and franchise. However he was not a bust. His first year wasn’t great but not bad. His 2nd year he was actually in MVP discussion at mid season before getting hurt after 10 games. His 3rd year was very good. His first year in Miami was dominant
