I think that Butler would be better right now than any options that we have at 32.

and that is one hell of a mount rushmore size big "if" the pick we make, hits lottery gold and is "as you say", as talented as butler is, then and only then, you would be right.

The potential draft pick would likely have a learning curve, that's life as a rookie player. I don't think it's exactly hitting the lottery to expect a player with a first rd grade to eventually be as talented as an udfa who was fortunate enough to be paired with a system and coaching staff who excels at getting the most out of their secondary. Could he bust...sure. Could Butler outside of the patriots system ( as most of the players they let leave a little early eventually do)...absolutely, and he'd be a much more expensive bust. Since I don't think we're going to win the super bowl this year or very likely at any point in the next few years I'd rather continue to try and build this team through the draft. If that meshes with Brees and his last season(s) with the team great, if not at least we're actually trying to build something long term.

PJ Williams played 82 snaps last season and missed the whole season because of a concussion. Granted im not head specialist, but if a dude has to sit out the season with a concussion, that cant be good. That being said, given his play on the field, or lack thereof, you cant call him a CB2. He's the reason we need CB's. Because he cant stay on the field and is one hit away from dying.

Moore had a decent showing, but i dont want to count on him. That would be absolutely crazy

U want Williams and Moore competing to see the field in nickel packages as CB 3/4/5.

Breaux is gonna play on the outside if healthy, and I believe in him. But we need a sure thing, proven player, on the other end. Too many question marks with our group to think otherwise.

Butler fits the bill.

Pass rush is very important, and probably the most important, but we aren't untalented on the D line.

Plus pass rushers in Jordan and Fairley. We'll see about Rankins, but 12th pick, 4 sacks in 9 games as a DT, it's promising. Okafor is a plus sub pass rusher when healthy.

Our new d line coach is gonna have a big impact with these guys too.

We need a DE, but CB1 is the biggest need...and we ain't getting that in the draft...not for 2017 anyway.

Why are we figuring that the trade needs to be 32???

I say offer 42. Let Pats take it or leave it.
And I bet they take it the day of draft as long as Butler signed his tender.

With what you're saying no one should ever get a CB ever.

You're reaching a little bit

He's saying the saints should only get corners who are at least 6'2, can run a sub 4.4, have a wonderlic score higher than 2x's their jersey number, be under 25 years of age, and also they have to have a second toe that is no more than 2mm and no less than 4mm longer than their big toe (on both feet, having met this criteria on only one foot will result in being DQ'd from employment)

I could work with that

because most of us who look at the cooks deal objectively feel like he wasn't worth the 32 pick we got for him so we feel the 32 was just given up with the understanding it would be returned to them when the butler deal was done and was compensation to us for giving up cooks, "just in case" the deal with butler didnt happen for some reason.

thought this would be common knowledge on this board since it has been talked about so much for so long.
