Drew has a no trade and no franchise tag clause...meaning all options for the Saints involving controlling his rights are out of our hands.
Our only options for 2017 and beyond
1.)make Drew a 2017 offseason longterm offer(3 to 4 more years) in a couple months once his feelings and emotions chill that is tempting enough to make him forget about testing 2018 FA waters
2.)fully invest in making the playoffs and see if we can make a strong enough pitch to resign Drew next offseason coming off a playoff berth(to my knowledge the current plan)
3.)If we stumble out the blocks early again Sean has proven time and time again we can not overcome it...if a slow start happens in 2017 we should start negotiating trade deals before the deadline with another team in playoff/SB contention and see if Brees would be open to waiving his no trade clause to prevent being buried on another wasted season's roster. Secure future picks while driving the tank to the top of the draft.
4.) lose Drew in FA to a contender for free.
kind of sad and depressing to look at but in terms of Drew going forward these are the only 4 options we have.
