Nope. There is a clear right and wrong here, and you can't dispute the fact that what the saints did was wrong, unethical, stupid, an potentially harmful to the league. You simply can't justify what they did. Sorry.

It isn't the NFL's fault that the Saints fricked up. Just take the blow and move on. Payton, Loomis, Vitt, and probably others, and not Roger and the NFL, are the bad guys here.

You really don't see the complete hypocrisy of the NFL, led by Goodell????????????????

NFL Films glorification of Deacon Jones
If you are a coach or a player do think the same company that is producing this would suspend the Head Coach of an NFL team for allowing players to run a pool for hard hits? That is what upsets me the most, it is hypocritical on a whole new level!

Money, that is all it is about. This player safety stuff is due to the huge $$$$ of lawsuits against the NFL. At the same time, the NFL makes money off big hits and players being taken out of games by nasty mean players. The NFL and Roger Goodell only give a shite if it threatens their bottom line. Sacrificing one team in the name of "player safety" is less costly to the NFL because it helps their case in current and future lawsuits. The NFL is a major corporation and Goodell's only job and alliance is to the bottom line.

Nope. Glorifying hard hits and at the same time taking safety measures is not hypocritical.

I hate it as much as most of the rest of you Saints fans out there, the suspension of SP and whatever else comes is a lot to swallow. But if you think about it, this bounty thing they did isn't a real positive for professional football. It belongs in a second-tier pro wrestling venue, not the NFL. We don't need giant hit-men running around out there. It really could get dangerous.

This pretty much sums up how an adult should see this.

Well I am an adult and choose to see it differently. Just because you think a certain way doesn't mean all adults should think the same way.

Right, because full speed violent collisions (which is one of the main reasons the NFL is so popular) are safe...and when players make hard hits on opponents, it is only to tackle them, nothing more. Are you really this stupid?

How much did Jimmy Graham get paid for taking out the coach. Oops, my bad, it was his own coach and he plays offense.

Goodell gets at least one small-market team out of the SB

You just don't want to get it.

Once again, and this is a hard fact: there is nothing hypocritical about celebrating hard hits and at the same time taking safety measures. And there is nothing hypocritical aboutthe way the NFL has dealt with the Saints here. The Saints got what they asked for, and too many of their fans are being brats about it.

I would guess, however, that the Saints are the only team to have had a bounty system, get caught and told to stop, then keep doing it and get caught again. I think all teams who do all that should be treated like bitches.

This.

Plus lying to the commissioner's face, allowing a twice convicted felon on sports related charges access to the team and already having a mark against you (Vicodin incident involving the same people).

I hate it, but the Saints are not being treated unfairly.

How? Exactly?

As recently as the last two months he lied to the Commissioner face to face (see the record).

Well...if you go by the punishment it basically means that Payton has committed the most despicable act in the history of professional football. the lesson here is don't hurt Goodells ego.

You can kill someone, blatantly cheat, be a habitual drug user, use steroids, but don't you DARE hurt Goodells ego

What if Goodell would've fined him 8 million dollars but let him coach....do you think that would've been appropriate.

Paying players to specifically cause debilitating injuries to opposing players may very well qualify. I know you are in denial, but it's true. Then he had the nerve to poke his boss in the eye and ignore direct orders from the Commish. Payton was stupid and got slapped down for being stupid. Sucks, but he asked for it.

I didn't even think about strike one.....strike 2 was the 2010 investigation....he was given 3 strikes.

Payton didn't pay anyone to do anything. he also didn't start the bounty program.

And as we all saw, Sean Payton would NEVER build in deniability. Sorry, but Sean Payton looks like a lying POS in this whole thing. It's been proven he knew about it, was told to stop, and elected not to. As the HEAD COACH, he is fully responsible for the actions of his direct subordinates, ie Greg Williams.

It's no surprise that some of these guys are having trouble with being rational, much less objective.
