Attending cardinals' game, but staying in Vegas (travel suggestion related)

Anyone got suggestions on best way to see Grand Canyon? I'll leave Vegas Wednesday morning and stay in Glendale Thursday night for game. I'll return to Vegas Friday morning.
ETA... willing to stay anywhere 3-4 hours from Glendale on Wednesday night

Flagstaff is cool. It’s like an hour south of the Grand Canyon national park.

Find a hotel on Bell Rd. You will be very close to the stadium. Far as Flagstaff, I been there many times. The city is known for skiing and hunting.

Flagstaff is one of my favorite little towns in America and I highly recommend staying there before seeing the Grand Canyon.

Depends what you're after.

I stayed in Flagstaff in 2015 after the NO-AZ game. It was a fun drive, but I shouldn’t have rented a car with a 1.8L engine, lol. Lots of steep climbs and great scenery.
There is a Sizzler in Flagstaff and lots of nice hotels.
The next morning we drove to the Grand Canyon. It was a little over an hour to get there from Flagstaff. It was a great trip, I just wish the Saints would have won.

Vegas to Flagstaff is ~3hr 50min drive. Vegas to Grand Canyon Village (Where they have in-park hotels) is ~4hr 20 min drive.
GC Village is about 3:20 drive to Glendale. Flagstaff to Glendale is about 2:10 drive.
I think it depends on what you want to do in the Grand Canyon. For me, one of my favorite things to see there are the Sunrises and Sunsets. They are truly stunning. If you don't mind doing the 3:20 min drive on Thursday, I would highly recommend staying in the park over staying in Flagstaff to maximize your time seeing the canyon. If you left Vegas by 9AM, you could be in the park by 1:00-1:30. You could then spend about 24 hrs there before driving south.
The downside to staying in the park is that if you want good food and good drinks and anything more than doing canyon things, you won't get it. So, if you'd be satisfied with driving up to the rim of the canyon, walk around a bit, and taking some pictures, you could definitely do that briefly and in just a couple of hours. "Seeing the canyon" is super easy and accessible, with parking spots just a couple of mins flat walk to the canyon edge. If that's all you need to satisfy "seeing the grand canyon", you could definitely make a stop and then stay in Flagstaff for the night. This would likely be the cheaper option, as well, because GC hotels tend to be pricey given their location.
I've done it both ways (Quick Day Trip and Overnight). It just depends on your budget and what you want to see.
Either way, I highly recommend doing the entire Desert View Drive. It is again something very easy to do, and very accessible. You could do it in as little as 2 hrs or spend all day. Typically I will enter the park from the south, coming up from Grand Canyon Junction. Then I will exit to the east by taking Desert View Drive out of the park. If you do wind up wanting to drive the Rim, I’ve used this audio guide before and found it to be great for a quick stay so that you catch most of the major overlooks and sights. You download it on your phone and then it uses GPS to let you know what is what and where to go. You could also certainly just “find what you find” and be very satisfied as well.
Hope you have a great time. The GC is incredible, even if you only spend a few hours there, but in my opinion, stay for as long as you can and soak it in.

Oak Creek Canyon between Flag and Sedona is worth checking into as well. It's on 89A between Flag and Sedona and is a must-do drive on your way down to Phoenix

We stayed in Flagstaff, less than 3 hours to Glendale, for the Fiesta Bowl, enjoyed it.
