Anyone have a feel for whether Allen would stay DC if we hired Leftwich or Bieniemy?

I hate to hire Allen as HC just because we don’t want the defense to take a step back. If he’s the best HC candidate, then great, but otherwise I’d like an offensive mind as HC.

You have to assume that a new coach would want to bring in his own people

He makes the most sense for HC because he's already in the building.

He might stay for 2022 if he isn't promoted since it's late in the game, but he would move on in a year or two.

Can’t imagine DA would stay here if passed over for the head coaching position. He might have some trouble getting a DC job elsewhere, but he would be snapped up by another team in a heartbeat.

I don't quite follow what you are saying here. He would have trouble getting a DC job, but snapped up immediately? So you are saying he would be willing to take a demotion and be a position coach? If so, I absolutely cannot see that.

I do agree he would leave if he's not named the HC. I hope he stays.

What I’m saying is it might be hard to get a DC job at this late date but he can easily find a job coaching for a year if he desires to do that. The choice will be up to him. He might prefer to coach somewhere for a year and then pursue either a HC job if he can get it or a DC job (which he would surely be able to get) next year. I just can’t see him being passed over by the Saints and staying as the DC if offered.

I doubt it and both of those guys are horrendous candidates. Both had offenses that could have the same success if they were there or not

It might be a mutual agreement to stay for one year. The new head coach will need to come in and put his stamp on the other side of the ball while he could leave Allen alone to run the defense.

If Allen leaves I promote from within and allow the other to stay in place.

From Allen's point he may not have many options. I know that 4 jobs still remain and I'm not sure how many of the other 5 new Hires have settled on staff. So Allen could stay for one year and then put feelers out the following year for HC jobs or moving teams.

If he truly wants the Head Coach job and they decide to give it to Leftwich or Bieniemy, I'd be looking elsewhere and leave as soon as I could. It's about pride, man!

And your two picks are guys that had the best situations in the NFL sandwiched between great HCs and great QBs? I'm not saying Bieniemy and Leftwich are bad coaches, I'm saying we don't know enough about their coaching to make a confident assertion. I'd be more supportive of the idea if Bieniemy goes to another team and develops a good offense and if Leftwich develops a solid QB for the Bucs. As of right now? Dudes are products of easy situations.
