Two-way lineman who also competed in track and field as a New York prep. Spent two years (2007-08) at Nassau Community College (N.Y.) before choosing Syracuse over Miami (Fla.). Weighed more than 400 pounds upon arriving. Played 10 games in ’09, starting three at right guard. Suspended against Pittsburgh and Louisville (violation of team rules). Reportedly was driving an SUV that was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009. Tiller was taken to the hospital, but the three teammates in the car with him (including Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 fourth-round pick Mike Williams) were unhurt. Police said the truck driver was entirely at fault and no alcohol was involved. Made all 25 starts at right guard over his last two seasons — 13 in ’10 and 12 in ’11. Strained his right hamstring on second 40-yard dash attempt at the Combine.
Positives:
Excellent size. Can create a surge in the run game and seeks to finish blocks. Functional short-area, slide pass protector — sets, shuffles and punches. Good anchor strength. Plays hard and competes.
Negatives:
Plays very upright and heavy-legged — mechanics get stressed the further he travels. Tends to bend at the waist and will overextend and fall off blocks. Inconsistent technique — footwork needs refinement. Struggled to unlock his hips and appeared very upright in drills at the Combine. Weight has fluctuated in the past and pushed 400 pounds upon his arrival in the program. Character needs to be evaluated.
Summary:
Big-bodied waist bender with the sheer size to cover up defenders in the run game and eventually compete for a starting job.

Poor guy doesn't have a chance to make the saints. The food is so good in N.O. that he's gonna weigh 500 before preaseaon.

Thankfully, Tennant will feel the heat with this move. Either shite or get off the pot.
I'm not comfortable with Tennant replacing Grubbs or Evans for any significant amount of time.

I'm impressed he lost 66 lbs to get in better shape.

He just said on WWL that he has been "328 for awhile now."

oops, time to get a job, better get in shape

Apparently he got to 400 pounds because he was bed ridden for several months after a surgery. Ate. Took oxycotten and slept. (Per brief WWL interview)

I see how Drew is going to get paid now. Saints drafted two new customers in Hicks & Tiller for his Jimmy Johns restaurant.

Like the pick. This wan an area of concern, and we got a solid guy here. I don't trust Tennant yet, so this could give the team some reassurance.

At Syracuse, Tiller played for coach Doug Marrone, the former offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the Saints from 2006-2008.
methinks this is a big factor, networking connections
-----------------------
Yasinskas:
The Saints took Syracuse guard Andrew Tiller. This is one guy that you don’t write off as a career backup just because he’s a sixth-round pick. First off, Tiller has great size and some upside. Second, the Saints have a history of finding great guards later in the draft. They found Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks, although Nicks left this year via free agency. Oh, there’s one other factor here. Tiller’s college coach was Doug Marrone, who used to be New Orleans’ offensive coordinator, so Tiller should have some familiarity with the Saints’ offense.
