A good offense makes a good defense better.

DA has always had a really good defense and the last few years the defensive struggles were the results of an inept offense. This was evident during the early Payton years and this past Cowboys game is a perfect example of the offense making the defense better.
When the offense is clicking, eating up clock and scoring points, two benefits are achieved. 1. The opposing offense is forced into a one dimensional offense of having to keep up or catchup. 2. The defense stays fresher, can play with much more confidence of what they are seeing, and be more physical because the opposing offense is predictable and they have a lead cushion.
I mention this now because of all the criticism that was pointed to DA defense the last few years. The saints have the same defense, but the offensive production is now helping them.

Your point is a good one and cannot be overstated. It is so much better to have some "cushion." Last year, the Mathieu missed tackle could have easily cost us a close game because the offense likely would have been struggling to put up 20 points or so. Instead, you get to absorb a mistake here and there because the offense is doing its part. And wasn't it nice to see Mathieu get a pick, as well? Complementary football!
