What has my age allowed me to see of the Saints over the years … the list is long.

I remember the Archie Manning and Dave Wilson days.
When the Saints were one of the 2-3 worst team in the league for Decades !!

When playing the Falcons was our SuperBowl quarterbacked by Steve Bartkowski and others… because neither of the teams could garner any success.

GreenBay sucked just as much as Saints back then… long before Brett Favre from Southern Mississippi came along.

When we once had a Dominant DT named Derland Moore from Oklahoma .. who was so freakin strong he won the NFLs first and Only Arm Wrestling competition !!

When the Saints were so fricking clueless… John Mecam hired a former astronaut to be the GM.
Because YOU are probably younger… and never heard that name before…..
John Mecam was the original owner and only other owner of the Saints beside Benson.

When Buddy Diliberto (RIP) was thrown off and banned from the Saints team plane by owner Mecam because Buddy kept criticizing him in his daily columns (well deserved criticism by the way)

When Buddy promised to wear a dress if the Saints ever made the Super Bowl and walk down Bourbon Street. Alas, when the Saints finally made the SB .. Buddy was dead (RIP) and Bobby Hebert donned the dress for Buddy in the French Quarter.

When Buddy showed up on his TV newscast wearing the Saints very first Bag on his head as an absolute JOKE…. that turned into a phenomenon … and everyone started wearing bags to games.
Everyone in the NFL now wears bags if their team is that bad.
Buddy started that trend !!

When the Saints finally had a winning season under Jim Mira after 30+ years of losing records . Benson owned the team then and Mecam personally called Jim Mora to congratulate him.

When Howard Cosell said he would never again let Saints play on Monday Night Football again … cause the Saints were a joke with only 1 true football player in Archie Manning !!

The Drew Brees era was nice because people finally received winning after waiting over 30 years just to get a winning season

A damn winning season !!

Yep… you learn a few things after living through those times and seeing how all the teams operate to develop winning teams.

There is much much more heartbreak in that background than victory I can tell you that much.

The Saints now suck again.
The cycle of an NFL team.

If you think a twenty something year old lived to see all that…. then your perception of reality is not what it should be.

Our “superbowl” was the 49ers back then.

The point of my comment was back in the 80s and 90s… beating the 49ers was our biggest win. Not the Falcons.
