That's true. Remember the Rams under Mike Martz. Their offense was insane, but Martz loved those gadget plays and he'd try to cram 2-3 of them into every game.
They could have won without them -- but Martz wanted to win cute - and sometimes it would backfire on him.
Payton has a similar issue. Sadly.
