I'm guessing you saw this in all the times you watched Indiana play?

i'm just wondering if they could have traded down and gotten him later. i don't think this was where most teams had him b/c he's a project as of now
still not as bad as the texans getting cute and then missing mendenhall AND mike jenkins

no
i'm just giving examples of how tackle stats can be padded
Posted on 4/26/08 at 7:11 pm to SlowFlowPro
from what ive read he was expected to be taken somewhere in the 2nd
and you have to have a trade partner to trade down

Perhaps he missed a lot of tackles that he should have had? I'm pretty sure I heard Kiper make a comment along the lines of "I know he had a lot of tackles but watching him play he was not good in run support"

We're 15 picks past #40 Tracy Porter right now and so far no other CB has been selected. That's a good sign.

there was a big dropoff after flowers, so this isn't shocking
also most of the teams after the saints pick either had picked a CB or have no CB need
broncos, vikes, bears, eagles, redskins, jags, and bengals are heavily invested at CB
bills and cards had already drafted a CB
the only possible team who could have gone CB, logically, is the lions

I think I played basketball against Porter in HS.
Posted on 4/26/08 at 7:18 pm to SlowFlowPro
are you really bitching about that pick?
Posted on 4/26/08 at 7:20 pm to Lester Earl
i'm not bitching. just saying that the teams not picking CB after the saints is irrelevant
i am intently wondering when king gets picked, however. very similar CBs and king is a better athlete

just checking, it sounded like u were
how is King a better athlete though?
according to ESPN, he has poor hips and wouldnt be good in man to man. Where as Porter is more suited to play man to man
Porter's production was certainly better in the same conference
but their numbers are pretty close. How is King a better athlete

Slo, you might not be old enough to remember the days when the Saints would draft some total surprise and rght after another team would select the player the Saints should have selected.
I'm old enough to still have Post Draft Stress Disorder from those old days.
Historically speaking, yes, it is shocking.
ETA: The number is up to 15 now. If there was still some better CB prospect on the board than Tracy Porter don't you think someone would have reached for him?

Porter had the best time in the 20 yard shuttle and 2nd best in the 60 yard shuttle.

Did you watch King? He was so frustrating and was beat all the time.

i see 15 picks going without a CB as a sign that the saints may have been the first team to reach for CB
Posted on 4/26/08 at 7:29 pm to SlowFlowPro
I think they may have reached a bit. A lot of the mocks I saw had Porter going around 50-55.
That's not my point, though. My point is that the Saints didn't trade their #1 for DE Billy Newsome while QB Bert Jones was on the board.
