Granderson stood out as a high school senior in Sacramento with 172 tackles and 15 sacks, which portended an outstanding career in Laramie. He played in all 12 games as a key reserve his freshman year, racking up 36 tackles, six for loss, and a sack. Coaches started him the first six games of his sophomore season, and he excelled (19 tackles, six for loss, four sacks) until suffering a season-ending injury. Healthy for his junior campaign, Granderson started all 13 games for the Cowboys and earned first-team All-Mountain West honors after posting 77 tackles, 16 for loss, 9.5 sacks, two interceptions, and two pass breakups. While Granderson's statistics were down a bit in 2018 (40 tackles, 7.5 for loss, three sacks, one interception, two pass breakups in 11 starts), he still was voted second-team all-conference.

Analysis

Draft Projection

Round 6

NFL Comparison

Tayshawn Bower

Overview

Long-limbed developmental prospect who will likely be drafted based upon traits over production. He is a leggy rusher and can too easily be neutralized by aggressive, first-strike tackles. Granderson has shown the athletic ability and pursuit speed to transition into a 3-4 outside linebacker, but his inability to handle run-stopping duties on the edge could make him a designated pass rusher only.

Strengths

Long limbs can find blocker's frame first

Has potential to become a more effective hand technician

Creates early push with speed-to-power and could keep developing it

Flashes quickness to disrupt with outside-in rush challenge

Twirls like helicopter to pivot around tackles with spin counter

Shows some ability to get skinny and split B-gap on inside moves

Good burst in lateral movement to corral tackles near his turf

Rangy, long-strider with ability to chase to sideline or on backside

Comfortable in space when asked to drop in coverage

Has three career interceptions

Weaknesses

Appears and plays lighter than listed weight

Play strength falls well-below the mark

Struggles to withstand power and hold his ground when setting edge

Below average body control through contact

Loses contain obligations

Sack production and ability to threaten edge were disappointing

Average flexibility to dip and trim the edge

Doesn't appear to trust his ability to win around the corner

Pass rush too easily stymied after receiving sharp punch

Humphrey is REALLY interesting. Big slot guy, came up really big for UT. Has no separation speed though.

Holland our of Kennesaw is intriguing. Almost 12 yards a carry, lots of big plays, also KR. Played in a triple option.
