The team went on a run with Zion/Melli/Redick/Ball/Hart in the first half of the 4th quarter. And it was 99-103.

Then we sub them out for Holiday, Ingram, Favors, Hart, and Melli. That lineup didn’t work in our favor. It’s too bad too because I thought we should have been able to manage with both Ingram and Holiday to allow Zion to rest and finish the game strong. That sequence where we missed 5 straight shots killed us.

Favors definitely is not a perfect fit.. He's just an ideal fit.

If I'm Griff I'm doing whatever I have to to get Turner this offseason. I know it wont be popular to say, but I'd even send Hayes if I had to (with no picks of course). Then I try to grab another stretch 5 on a low cost deal (someone like Dragen Bender), and bring over Cheatham, who has been good from 3 in the G League and should only get better.

The Pelicans are +7 when Favors plays and -30 when he sits against the Lakers this season and folks are really pounding the "spacing spacing spacing" drum because only offense matters to their analysis.

Bro...thats literally the opposite of what we saw last night though
Zion w/ Favors: Pels were -26.3
Zion w/o Favors: Pels were +10

so yeah....no.

With our youth, I keep Hayes. Too much potential.
I look for ways to replace JJ and Jrue. Not necessarily now but in 2-3 years, it would be nice to have a young guy to flow with this core. Zo, future SG, BI, Zion, and Hayes in 2022 should be formiddable

When have we seen a championship team with guys in early 20s? I dont recall any. Goal should be to make playoffs and get the giys experience. We will be set to compete with anyone in 3 years...2 if lucky.

Turner is only 23 (turns 24 in March)

He's younger than Hart, and we already know he would be a PERFECT fit with Zion and BI and he's right in that age group where he would be here with them through their prime.

I know it's not ideal to give up Hayes, but if I absolutely had to, I would do it knowing that I'm getting a 100% perfect fit for my team.

If Hayes grows and develops an outside shot then great, but as of right now there's no guarantee he ever does.

Dude, it's been discussed adnausium how important Derrick is to this team.

If you want to be ridiculous with these stupid takes go ahead, but every advanced metrics shows that we are a far better team with him on the floor than when he's not

I would love Turner. We will assume he has a good team-first attitude.

He has some injury history though. He shoots the 3 but avgs less than 1.5 per game. We assume we have scoring covered, that he would help on D. We know he gets blocks. Does he actually play good D? I am not knowledgeable enough to say. Which positions can he guard? His rebounding numbers arent great...is it their scheme? Is he blocking out while others grab free balls?

In my limited knowledge, I am ok with trading some draft picks and Moore/Miller types but i am not sold on giving up a ton for a guy that misses many games. Perhaps with more knowledge, my opinion would change

His injury history is not that bad, some small nagging injuries..LINK

This season he's taking a little over 4 3's a game and hitting them at 34%. Last season he hit at .388% on 3's and should have been in the running for all defensive team.

The problem is his fit next to Sabonis is pretty much like Favors and Zion. It's ok, just not perfect.

As far as his defense:
quote:

Turner is leading the entire NBA in D-PIPM at +3.0 as of January 3rd. He’s ahead of last years DPOY winner Rudy Gobert. This isn’t a fluke. Myles Turner’s impact on the defensive end of the floor is legit, and he is buoying the Pacers on that end of the floor.
Indiana is able to often times play drop coverage on pick-and-rolls because they know Turner can hold his own in any given situation. Drop coverage, for those unfamiliar, is exactly what it sounds like: the defender guarding the player setting the pick (Turner, in this case) drops to a level below the screen and stays with the ball handler until the ball handlers matchup can recover. The goal is to keep Turner between both the ball and rim while simultaneously not allowing the roll man to get below him.

quote:

Turner is incredible at these coverages, and defending pick and rolls is a forte of his. When defending the roll man, Turner concedes 0.837 points per possession per Synergy. That is good for the 69th percentile, or better than 69% of his NBA peers. When defending the ball handler, Myles allows 0.727 points per possession, which is excellent. He swallows up both options on his own – and given that the PnR is a staple of literally every NBA offense – having an anchor that can singlehandedly slow it down is huge for the Pacers.

I’ll tell you I watched JJ in LA and JJ in Philly and they are not using him right in this offense. They need to get him some damn open shots. He’s so good moving around picks and so forth, but the picks have been shitty, the positioning has been shitty, and honestly he’s getting it in less than ideal positions to score. Redick almost never should be dribbling the ball. He’s a catch and shoot master.

He averaged 70 games a year first 4. Looks to be on pace for about the same this year.

The PnR info is impressive. Certainly a useful trait.

Have the Pacers floated any rumors of what it would take to get him?

No not what it would take, and this past offseason they were adamant about not moving him, but before the deadline rumors were they were willing to move him

Whoever downvoted you is fricking crazy.

Other than finding a time machine and going back to get prime Horford, there are very few players that are a more ideal fit next to Zion than Turner.

I really like Hayes, but Hayes will need to gain a reliable three point jumper if he is truly ever going to be the ideal pairing next to Zion. Yes, Zion may gain a shot, but the key to making him truly unstoppable will be surrounding him with four players that can stretch the floor and another big that can get back and defend PnR, protect the rim, and really gobble up defensive boards for 20-25 or so minutes a night when Zion isn’t playing at the five. That way there is basically no way to stop him because he will either murder you around the rim one on one, kick out to guys that will bury you from deep, or find an open cutter from whoever is cheating to help.

Yeah, according to their local beat guy, we put together a very respectable offer and they turned it down.

My hope is that they revisit that offer this offseason. We have more picks than we can possibly use and a lot of ways to make salaries work if BI helps play ball.

As there has to be coming to that point for Indiana where they are going to have to shake it up if they want to be more than a second tier playoff team.

Hell, I think Turner on this team could give us 30 minutes a night with no issues (barring any injury of course).

And yeah, Turner is what we hope Hayes becomes. It would suck to lose Hayes, but it would also suck even more if we keep him and lose out on a deal for a PERFECT big, and he just doesnt pan out right, we would be kicking ourselves...

If we were to guarantee Miller next season just to use in the deal, and add him and Hayes together, we would be roughly 800k short on salary, but likely can make up that difference with cap space if the timing is right
