Zion needs to be more selfish for this team to take that next step.

He needs to attack every time he touches the ball. He’s way too passive at times this year. Good things happen when he collapses the defense. He’s an underrated passer so he can either score if he’s got a path to the basket, draw a foul or kick it out to an open shooter that comes to help the defender on Zion. He should be averaging 10 free throw attempts a game. He’s starting to get into basketball shape so maybe he will start taking more shots.

We don't really do a good job of getting him the ball in traffic so it would be really tough for him to get that many shots up consistently without touching the ball on every possession. Unless he's the primary ball handler playing the point, I just don't see it.

I don't think the coaching staff is going to do that either. Seems like they're looking for ways to involve him into actions and using his gravity to free up his teammates right now. But if we go far in the playoffs, he's going to need to be the guy.

My best guess as to the reason he doesn't attack as much as we want him to when he does have the ball is conditioning. He looks so gassed after 3-4 minutes of every stint.

That is exactly what i’m suggesting. We should run the point Zion offense way more than we do. It doesn’t need to be all the time but when he’s out there and BI is getting a rest I would run the offense through Zion. You can tell his conditioning is getting better by his rebounding numbers increasing lately.

I wish we would run our offense using Zion like Denver does jokic… obviously jokic has a different skill set than Zion but they are similar in that they both have lots of paint gravity that opens up opportunities for shooters. Jokic completely facilitates their offense because he is so hard to guard and a great passer. I want Zion to touch the ball every play where he can either create for himself or pass to the open man.

Difference between Zion and Jokic is though is that Jokic has an incredible 3 point shot as well as an automatic midrange. The best we can hope for Zion is that 5 foot hook/floater that TSpoon begged him to put in his game. But you’re right in that defenses both close out on both Jokic and Zion because they are freaks of nature on a basketball court.

Sounds like you always want Zion to be in foul trouble. Defenses will just be sitting there waiting for him to drive to take charges.

Wait, you mean Zion isn’t Jokic level?
