Why is Monty a good coach?

There seems to be a very divise pro and anti Monty faction developing

I don't think he's that bad, I just think he's below average, pretty decent defensive coach, and pretty bad offensive one

He doesn't seem to draw up good plays in crunch time situations, and often his rotations make very little sense

So that's my beef. Pro-Monty guys, why exactly is Monty considered such a good coach in the NBA?

And provide evidence/examples of why he is such a good coach

I haven't seen many people call him a good coach recently

The Monty haters just go nuts when we say that he shouldn't be fired. He'll have a better chance to prove himself next year. If this continues next year, he's likely done

If they go nowhere next year then I will say release him of his duties. I'm not tripping right now. I understood what was going to happen early in the season.

It means figure it out for yourself. If you don't think he's good then think that way, its not hurting you so continue living that life.

Well I mean, you seem to like the guy

Why? Can you give me some reasons?

What about his coaching style and methods makes you like him as a coach?

I just want to know where I'm going wrong here

I don't like anything about the guy, I wanted him gone since January 2005, and I have 5764 posts detailing why. I should create one of those websites saying fire him but I'm just too lazy to do it.

Should we start tanking but get excited for player development.

I'll bite.

I disagree about offense. He has done nice work getting Anderson open looks this season. And he is putting Davis in spots to succeed. The team is middle of the pack on offense, which is impressive considering the talent.

Completely agree on end of game situations, its a goddamn grease fire. Some of that is personnel (how many looks did Lopez blow tonight/how hard is it for Vasquez to turn the corner/just a lack of creators), but much of it is unimaginative play calling when defenses will be locked in.

His rotations arent quite Byron-esque, but they arent too far behind.

Two big positives for him: he's gotten his teams to play hard and he's at least been around for the development of younger guys.

He's been squeezing most of what he can get from this roster.

That said, tonight's loss was not pretty. Injuries limited his options, but it was a woeful coaching performance down the stretch.

i like your strategy wait till the craziness dies down then reply, not only do you get the last word but the chances someone disagrees/confronts you decreases by this percentage im about to make up -- 44%

we should all follow your lead

You also have to give Monty credit for finding ways to make guys like Aminu fit and actually look like NBA players. Vasquez and Aminu were apparently the 2 players that Monty was toughest on and look at where they are now compared to when they got here. Monty really needs to work on his rotations, though. He likes to stick with minutes and planned rotations way too much instead of being able to make changes based on the in-game situation. There was no reason to not even try putting in AD when our lineup was scoring a whopping 0 points in the last 6 minutes.
