DG needs to keep playing so we can trade him
This IS likely the reason but I don't understand. How much does anyone realistically think he can up his trade value playing 15-18 minutes a night? I think the amount of value he can add is just so slim.

Now compare that to putting out the best possible rotations to win games, and that could be the difference between a top 6 seed and landing in the play in. Feels like that is infinitely more important than the small extra bit we can extract out of a team for a DG trade.

Yet he still found ways not to play Treye Murphy also last year lol.

Get out of here with that crap.
Trey followed a very similar path as Tyrese Maxey in that they played a good bit early on, then sat a good bit in the middle of the season, then finished the season strong. That's a similar path a lot 1st round picks on decent teams follow.

19 year old Anfernee Simons played in 20 games total his rookie year, averaged 7mpg. Seems to have worked out for him.

If he shoots 40% from 3 playing 15-18 minutes a night, he'll have decent trade value.

There's a reason guys like Joe Harris and Duncan Robinson and Davis Bertans signed $80M+ contracts, and Alex Caruso signed a $30M contract.
shoot 40% from 3 and you are much more valuable than they guy that shoots 32%.

DG was at 37% for two years in Charlotte, then dropped last year to 34%. We can use the excuse that we used him as a lead guard a lot more than he did in Charlotte last year, so no we've got him back in his backup role this year where he's just out there to hit open shots, and he's at 40% on the year. Maintain that for the first 3 months of the season and someone will want him, at least enough for us to not have to send out a 2nd or something to move him.

A team like the Clippers just wants shooters. If they see DG as good as Kennard, then a straight DG for Kennard gives them similar production, while saving them a good bit of money this year and next. We could send Kennard somewhere else with Jaxson and get back a good really good role player, like McDermott.

Herb played garbage time in game 1 last year, and Josh Hart got hurt, and we had no other wing defenders so Herb to advantage of the opportunity.

The plan wasn't to play Herb, but the situation called for it.

There's an argument that right now we need offense more than we need defense. With that, it makes sense to slowly bring in DD. Granted, he seems to have great potential as a passer/facilitator but they may feel it's just not there yet.

But the offense is more of a concern right now than defense, so maybe that's a factor.

Right now, this season coming down to CJs 3pt FG %. If he was shooting anywhere near his career average we are in a very different place.

They are taking opportunities away from BI and Zion, and daring someone else to beat them, but we don't have the consistent 3 option we thought as of now.

In fairness, we are taking opportunities from Zion, not defenses.

maybe a little, but that's the main culprit.

We are losing right now b/c we can't get a fricking stop on defense in the 4th quarter.

Doesn't matter what we do offensively, we are digging ourselves a little hole in the 3rd/4th and we can't get out of it b/c we can't stop the other team from scoring when it matters most.

The NBA regular season has and always will be a game that really only matters what you do in the last 6-8 minutes of the game. The good teams step up, find ways to get stops and have guys that can score in the clutch. We have that capability, we just aren't executing.

Herb was a 23 year old rookie who was DPOY in a conference where he checked top 10 picks for years

Severely underrated comment. 1000% truth. Plus ad overall Player of the Year to DPOY in a conference with solid nba players on 80% of the rosters.
