JR Smith's contract has some arcane but legit value as it's grandfathered into the old CBA. Therefore it can be traded for his full $15.6M value and then waived for his $3.8M guarantee next summer. This makes it somewhat of an asset so buyout is unlikely right now.

well that is an interesting tidbit.

I don’t want him. Plus, He’s going to goto the Lakers as one of Lebrons groupies. Book it. Him and Korver.

I don’t want JR either but if he’s playable and it’s a 1 for 1 Solo JR trade I’ll take it.

JR can give you minutes. Solo can’t.

yeah I wouldn’t complain about a Solo or JR switch but I don’t know what JR’s market looks like

guys we need to re-calibrate what solomon hill can bring in a trade...he's owed another 13MM next year, and he may never become a playable NBA wing

hill for smith straight up ain't happening...the cavs could just buy smith out and wind up better off. hill + diallo for smith would be one possible deal

then, next year the pels can cut smith and gain 10MM on the ledger. cavs get diallo for their trouble, and can shop hill as an expiring

Yeah when i said that, i didn't realize he only had $3.8M due next year. I was assuming they had similar looking contracts, with Solo's being sligthly less. The tidbit of that $3.8M guaranteed next year makes that 1 for 1 deal a moot point.

I'm starting to wonder if we even need a big trade. Wes Johnson has a negative NetRtg of -0.7, but it's much better than Solomon Hill's -5.1. Johnson for Hill has been a huge upgrade and also has let Moore play more SG making him more effective. It's a minor move that has lead to major improvement.

Based on that I'm looking at Ian Clark and his NetRtg of -5.6 as the player we need to upgrade most. If you can make a similar upgrade like they did with Johnson then you might just MoneyBall your way into dark horse contention without a significant addition. I'd say Frank Jackson is in contention with a -1.1 NetRtg, and of course Payton when he returns. Frazier needs to be wearing suits every night, -19.2 LINK

Agree with all of this, ATL.

Philly on the road will be another nice litmus test game. Need to get two of three on this road trip, though.

agree, which was my point.
a solomon hill trade will either be for a maxxed-out "star" or (with an asset) for a player like JR Smith. theres no in-between

and since the "stars" will have better bidders, thie second choice is the way i'd go. get off of hill, sacrifice diallo, and get into the JR Smith business. he's got size, he's got attitude, he's got experience, and he can score. that incremental improvement from clark or diallo on the floor to smith could mean some additional wins

I agree that we don't necessarily have to make the big trade to get better. simply upgrading the SF position and PG position would make this team better.

I do'nt even think we really need a starting PG. Jrue is going to have the ball in his hands, and AD and Randle have been taking the ball up the court and initiating the offense some, and we are seeing plays run through Etwaun as well. With the way AD has been passing the ball and finding teammates, PG isn't an aboslute necessity. Jrue will be the PG to close games out regardless who's on this team. That's why i think adding a guy like Beal makes us a near championship level team with the way Jrue has been playing.

A guy that wouldn't be a bad add that isn't a main player is Tony Snell. He's been a 40%+ 3 point shooter, not the best defender, but at least has great length (Jrue's covering the best wing regardless). he's been losing minutes with the multitude of wings the Bucks have. He's got 2 more years at $10M per. A Wesley for Snell works without adding anyone else. Bucks need to resign Middleton, Brogdon and Bledsoe, so that frees up $10M for them.
If a move like that can be done without giving up a 1st, then you can still look to move Solo with the 1st to upgrade again. Solo/Frazier/Clark/1st for Lin/Bembry.

Payton/Lin
Jrue/Moore/FJ
Snell/Bembry/Miller
AD/Diallo
Niko/Randle

Not a bad little team right there with lots of depth.

i like the snell idea

speaking of hill, here's solo/gentry/demps on his 9-game DNP streak

kushner

quote:

“I’m healthy enough to play,” Hill told The Advocate this weekend. “I’m physically fine. I just can’t control those decisions, so I try not to worry about them. “I’m a player. I’m not the coach. It’s their decision, but I’m just trying to do what I can to keep myself ready and help these guys in the locker room, from the bench and in practice, and be what the team needs me to be.”

quote:

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said he believes Hill will get another chance to play at some point this season, and isn’t being benched because of personality disputes or team disruption. Gentry claims Hill simply lost his spot when the Pelicans decided to go in a different stylistic direction. Namely, he was jumped in the wing rotation by a more versatile Wes Johnson (acquired via trade in October) and the team re-engineered lineups that didn’t require Hill.

quote:

“It’s a long season,” general manager Dell Demps told The Advocate. “I am optimistic and hopeful that Solomon will contribute to the Pelicans having a successful season.”

I agree that we don’t need major moves.

I think breaking up the core of Jrue AD Niko would be a grave mistake, along with trading Randle or Moore.

That is a very nice foundation. What really need is what Hill is supposed to provide us. Defense on long wing players (KD) and corner 3s.

And we need two of those guys lol.

This team has been up and down, yes, but we are in a better position to advance to the WCF than we were last year.

If we get there and not shite the bed, AD absolutely takes the supermax

That’s a fringe title contender. With arguably the best player in the league and another near ALL NBA caliber two guard.

Why not if they're looking for a proven vet?

He'd be a big upgrade of Tim(I like the guy but he hasn't played well at all)

Sessions is a 10+ year veteran with a career 16 PER and would bring stability while Elfrid is out

Good veteran ball handler
Not a great shooter but serviceable

He's not a world beater by any stretch but would instantly stabilize the bench

He's never been anything special. I was just wondering what you saw in him to say the you could dig that.

He had that half season running Pick and Rolls with peak Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol, while playing shooting decent from three...like 7 seasons ago.

He’s a familiar name but what does he really have in the tank? I wouldn’t want him leading the second unit.
