Missing the entire starting frontcourt for most of the season has alot to do with this..

Take any team in the NBA and take away their starting frontcourt and they will have similar results

Oh, I know. I get it. I'm just saying that putting all the blame on Gentry and none on the front office for the roster that Gentry has to work with is absolutely not something that would be happening if Dell Demps had put this roster together.

The logic of this forum is: "we know that Griffin is awesome and Gentry is terrible, so it has to all be Gentry's fault."

I'm no fan of Gentry, but I just wish we could have a few more reasonable people on this board.

There is talent, but it's mostly young

I think we often conflate youth and talent. Some things that are hard to measure are things I consider talent - like the ability to execute. But let's take a step back.

How many current Pels player would start on a team like Milwaukee or Boston? How many would get minutes come playoff time?

Favors, Redick, Jrue, and Ingram. That's it. Of those Jrue might be the only guy to start (Favs in Boston because they don't have bigs).

That is a dearth of talent. When you combine that with low IQ, coaching that hasn't been able to break through agendas, and a FO that misjudged the chemistry/ leadership aspect - you get a total mess of a team.

When you look at the advanced stats for Kenrich, they show him playing at a very high level.

Really I think the only thing we are missing is that alpha type guy that will hold everyone else accountable. I don't know who was available that we realistically could have gotten, but I think it will come with a little time

I agree. Youth does not always = talent. But I do think it's pretty obvious that Hayes, Zion, and Alexander-Walker have talent. It's not mature, winning talent (yet), but there is potential to get there.

And I agree that only a handful of players on this roster could play for Milwaukee. That they would see minimal time on a Finals contender doesn't diminish the talent of the young guys. Almost every single rookie, from busts to future MVPs, has a very hard time playing winning basketball on a good team.

Rather, like you say, this points to the expectations the team set, at least externally via PR, and the misjudgments there. A team relying heavily on young guys (even w/o the injuries) was always going to have ups and downs. This was always a transition year; you don't trade away Anthony Davis and get better.

The roster absolutely needs retooling and upgrades. It's been a whiff from Griffin et al thus far (which is fine at this very early point IMO). But they have to figure out their core pieces, how they can maximize those players, and then what role players they need around them that can play winning basketball together going forward. It's always been about the next 3-5 years for me with this Pels crew.

Well Hayes, Zion, and NAW are barely playing. I'm more speaking to the talent that gets minutes. You can't control youth, and if you play them you can't expect wins.

But there are major areas where guys like Ingram, Lonzo, and Hart need improvement in and it hurts the team beyond not having a guy like Favors healthy.

Absolutely. More seasoned guys have deficiencies.

Pels top 10 in MP feature 4 guys in their 1st or 2nd year, 2 guys in year 3. The frontcourt leaders in MP thus far are Kenrich and Hayes. Young guys are hurting them, but the vets have some issues that aren't helping the situation. And some of that falls on roster construction and the FO.

Every time Gentry designs something on his chalk board;
it's advantage other team.
