I’ve had someone tell me hey you are able to get some free tix if you chat up a rep about possibly wanting season tix, but want to experience first
Any truth?

No personal experience - but i've seen it happen around me.
Know that there will be an empty seat next to you for the first quarter. Eventually someone in a suit will come sit there and try to sell you on tickets.
Time share strategy.

Makes sense…wonder if it’s improper to tell them when that happens that somebody sold them these tix right before game?

I wouldnt do this. They'll probably know your name from contact giving tickets, and then they'd likely lead with name so that could be awkward. And if going route saying tickets were sold that's a quick way to have a note made and never be allowed any future favors.
My suggestion is to be nice and let the rep do their job talking, and don't buy if not wanting to buy. I like the timeshare analogy but in those situations with a greatly discounted vacation there's still an understanding that I'm going to spend some time with the salesman firmly saying no. If it's uncomfortable talking to a Pels rep then I'd just avoid the situation and buy tickets on seatgeek, etc.
