Lacking shooters and lacking interior defense. It's like we went against conventional wisdom of what leads to success in this era of the NBA and tried to change the paradigm by drafting and signing guys that can guard all 5 positions.

So we have a bunch of long athletes on the wing and undersized bigs that don't generate a lot of offense. It's something that is just not sustainable over the course of a full NBA season.

This rosters depth was praised for the first 2.5 months of the season .

It’s a young roster that is still developing . It’s not a finished product .

Take the best 2 players off any roster and the team will struggle .

We have depth in that we have a lot of guys can check into an NBA game and not look like the don't belong.

However, we have too many guys that do the exact same thing. We don't have a lot of guys that compliment the other. For example, Jose, Herb and Dyson are very good role players. But if 2 or, heaven forbid, all three are on the floor together, you have three guards that can't shoot.

You are talking about a rookie and 2 second year guys( a 2nd rounder and a FA) in that example which reiterating is my point .

This roster is in no way a finished product by way of individual development or overall personnel . The pelicans are not all in with roster construction to win this year .

No roster is really a finished product, everything is constantly evolving. With contracts the way they are, you're hardly ever going to have it where everyone on your roster is at their peak. For example, we have to make a decision on Herb and Trey by the end of next season, and then a year after that, we have to know if BI is going to re-sign or not.

If that's what you are holding out hope for, then you are going to be sorely disappointing.

This point was not brought up at all when this team was sitting atop the western conference and near the top of the league in scoring . Our 2 best players that the entire offense revolves around go down , we struggle , and now we have a weirdly constructed roster.

Role players are role players for a reason . If they have to play Star minutes or star roles their are going to be struggles as we are seeing first hand .

Ironically the guys who are supposed to be our “shooters” have been our two most disappointing players this season .

How does that make this any less valid?

And for the record, I've been saying this team needed one more shooter off the bench since the season began.

It’s an argument or point of convenience to criticize the roster makeup at a time the team is struggling . The roster and productivity look and perform at a very high level when at full strength .

Are you saying we would have been better off not drafting Herb or Dyson or not signing Jose ? Should we have made trades this summer with those guys or others coming off rookie season on which the made major impacts ?

Every roster could use another shooter . Trey needs to either step up or be humbled imo and grahams minutes could be upgraded or eliminated on a lot of nights . Jax is a waste of a roster spot which is why he won’t be around long .

Roster construction is not the reason for Pels struggles right now unless you want to criticize the fact that our team is built around two guys that seem injury prone.

It's also an argument of convenience to keep parroting "wait until this team is healthy" like everyone being healthy isn't the anomaly for this team.

That would be a convenient argument but it’s not one I’ve ever made in this convo or otherwise .
