The Rebuild: Taking The Western Conference into consideration.

After tonight, the Hornets MUST consider OKC when they rebuild. And I don't necessarily mean their rebuild model. I just mean them, now.
They have the conference on LOCK for the foreseeable future. If they keep Westbrook, Durant, Harden and Ibaka (I have no idea how) the road out of the WC will probably go through Okie for the next 5 years, at least.
And I don't see anyone that can challenge that long term.
Then comes us. I've been in favor of a quick rebuild. I've even been in favor of taking a solid player at 10 without a lot of upside.
Now...I think we need to swing for the fences at 10 and look longterm. Go with potential. Let the team grow organically. Give young guys like Aminu, Davis, Henry, 10, Vasquez lots of minutes. Don't make any rash trades for big time vets. Don't sign any FAs beyond 2 years besides Gordon.
We must go for elite talent. Thats the only way to challenge them. We must develop it over time. Give OKC a few years...then challenge. The worst possible thing now would be to rush it or settle for "solid" players...because that won't cut it.
Makes sense?

they won't but they'll still be stacked.

It makes sense, but I'm not a fan of the idea of rebuilding with another team in mind. Lets build our team better then theirs, no matter how long it takes, then we should be set.

impossible....i agree with your perspective though

I agree with this thought process. I really like how OKC has put together their team since moving there and drafting Durant/Westbrook then filling out the rest.
I see the Hornets in a very similar position now and if we do this right, we could be right where they are in about 3-4 years imo. If Davis, Gordon, and the 10 pick pan out with the nucleus we have I could see NO/OKC being one of the bigger NBA rivalries of the next decade as teams like SA, LA, and Dallas come down to Earth with aging stars.

Anyone else see Fab Melody the next Serge Ibaka. Both defensive and blocking guys. Also both raw offensively

Ibaka has a jumper. I didn't watch much Syracuse but I don't remember Melo having one.

and melo is only 1 year younger than ibaka, just for comparison's sake

Obviously a completely different type of player, but I think most well informed people expect Davis to be just as impactful as Durant.

i do not think this is true at all
this is not a slight on davis, but durant was insane his one year at Texas
we gotta ease our expectations on davis

Did you not see Larry Brown's comments on Davis? Larry freakin Brown said something to the effect that AD is the biggest game changer inside presence since Wilt and Bill Russell.
I'm just saying people who know shite think AD is as special as the come. Durant wasn't even a consensus top pick, remember?

irrelevant. that just means the top of that draft was stronger
if oden's clone was in this draft there would be another discussion. oden would still probably go ahead of davis too b/c he is bigger with similar positives (defense, athleticism)

Possibly. But I doubt it. No one like Larry Brown was saying these things about Oden back then. AD is special. Embrace it. Enjoy it.

plenty of people were granting great superlatives on oden that draft. i know this b/c i followed it closely and i was firmly entrenched in the durant camp of that debate

I remember as well. I just don't rememeber the extreme, off the chart superlatives that are being said about AD. I watched AD dominate big time college games (as a true freshman) without even having to score. I don't recall ever being blown away by Oden like that.

well oden was hurt, and he still led his team to the title game in his 1 year
oden, like davis, erased the paint
