Personally I much, much rather see what the game is today than what it was in the 90’s.
Frankly I think nostalgia has completely papered over how ugly much of basketball was.
The same people bitching about the beautiful passing and shooting of the modern NBA were also bitching about the "thugged out" style of the late 90s/early 00s.
People need to go onto Youtube and watch these "beautiful" games....even from the hallowed 80s. It's really boring and ugly. I bring this up all the time when people argue that defense then was much better or the gam ewas more physical. Outside of a few big shots/hits and the Riley-era of scores in the 60s, the D was not.

he same analytics that quantified the value of the three and the breakeven point for when it makes more sense to take a three than a two is the same analytics that is also being used as a basis to partially revitalize the mid range game as a means to take advantage of how defenses and rule changes have adjusted to the emphasis on threes.
I actually meant to bring this up in my post above.
If the issues he had with the lack of x become efficient, then analytics will show this. I don't know if he'd accept it, then.

Wanting anything less than that is just emotional phobia of math.
More like a case of Endowment Effect in real time. People overvalue what they perceive to own, which, in sports, is the style they initially came to enjoy the sport. They'll always value that style even if it makes their defense irrational.

Baseball: uppercut “HR or K” swings, decline in fundamentals/manufacturing runs, endless shifts Basketball: abandoning the midrange, way too many 3s
You’re confusing effectiveness with watchability. I agree that the analytics is “ruining” the entertainment value of baseball but is clearly the right approach if you want to win.

If nothing else we're going to get him a raise from the pistons
