I pointed it out earlier, what's the point of Thornwell and Hernangomez on this roster? Wouldn't it be better if we had drafted at least 1 other guy, like Desmond Bane? We had 3 picks after Kira and we made zero picks.
Thornwell has zero potential on this team. Could have drafted Jordan Nwora instead. Maybe he ends up as good as Thornwell, or worst, or maybe he ends up being worth a shite. If you never take chances in the draft, how the hell are you ever supposed to hit on someone? We amassed all these picks and i think all we really want to do is trade them away eventually, when we should be investing in better scouting and making picks. You don't have to make all of them, but there's no reason to not have at least 2 rookies on the team every year, not including two way players. Bringing in minimum contract players that don't actually ever play is completely worthless in every way possible.
100% agree.
I don’t have a problem with the Wenyen Gabriel’s, but small market teams, or non-established teams with natural geographic appeal, really need to have a strong working pipeline in all aspects of roster management: draft, player development, trades, G-League/international/Undrafted FA scouting and development. That’s how teams like Spurs, Raptors, Hawks, Nets, Heat, and Denver have built deep and sustainable rosters.
I hope this really was because of lack of talent/in anticipation of an organizationally difficult situation due to the condensed schedule and our team incorporating so many new changes, but if we start just selling off assets for more expensive, short-term vet role players every season, I’ll begin getting very skeptical of Griff’s ability to make good on his claim to want to build a dynastic team that can be competitive on a decade scale. Because if I’m sitting here the next two offseasons and see Griff trade away our first rounders for less cost controlled and more expensive role players, I’m gonna start calling Demps on that bullshite lol.
We are at the point you only draft and develop or bundle for a third star, the late first for the Asik’s/Ariza’s needs to come later in the process.

exactly.
agree with everything you said. I'm fine with Wenyen, it's just stupid to take up a roster spot with Hernangomez and Thornwell if they aren't actually going to ever play.
I've been saying it for years, it's just absolutely stupid to trade away every 2nd round pick like we have. We went 7 years between AD and Zion. We made 1 first round pick, Hield, and 3 2nd round picks, Frank, Diallo and Tony Carr in that time. That is pathetic.
I'm not sitting here expecting to draft Draymond or Middleton, but you have to actually make a pick to have a chance. I don't get the point of just throwing 2nd round picks away, and we did that many of times where we didn't even trade them for something worthwhile, just gave them away for cash.
We traded away the 39th pick for a Utah 2022 2nd. what the hell was the point of that?
We traded away the 42nd pick for a Charlotte 2024 2nd, which we sent to OKC for Adams. I get that it was necessary for that trade, and i'm happy with Adams, but what was the point of punting the 39th pick for two years? I'd much rather have Nic Richards on the bench than Hernangomez, or literally any other 2nd round pick available, and i would full expect them to not contribute, and likely not every amount to much, just like Diallo and Frank, but at least take a stab at it.

It's pretty normal for dudes buried at the end of the roster to only play in garbage time.
They're there to get minutes when injuries happen.

Why?
B/c it makes no damn sense.
We had three picks we could have used this year if we wanted to. We could have easily given out future 2nd instead of getting rid of 39, and we could have easily given up the Lakers 22 1st instead of sending 24 to Denver for a future first.
The 24th pick makes like $100k more than Hernangomez, and the 39th pick would make less than Thornwell.
Hernangomez will never turn into decent player, ever, and Thornwell is very unlikely too. As if it matters if Desmond Bane had to play 15mpg instead of Thornwell b/c Hart was out for a few games. Demond Bane could be a bust, or he could turn into Will Barton. Thornwell has zero potential to be Will Barton.
We have 1 rookie on our team this year not including Two way players. That’s just dumb for where we are as a team when you consider who we are rostering instead of a rookie.

The point is that we still have those future picks and can throw them into a future trade. On the other hand, if we used one them to draft someone in the 2nd, that would just be one more player for people on this board to bitch about SVG not playing and not developing.
Look, with no summer league, and a shortened training camp, and a compressed schedule that practically eliminates extended full-contact practices during the season, this was the worst year to draft and develop a player, and we were already developing a ton. We only have a few "finished" players like JJ, Adams, and Bledsoe.
I would have preferred for us to draft someone on the 2nd round, but I completely understand why Griffin didn't -- picks that you can't develop are worth a lot less than picks you can develop with a proper summer league and training camp.
