Epic- Yep, I trust Griffin...do people really think he would cut Wood if he felt he was going to be a real key to success this year? All you have to do is look at our draft to know Griffin was looking in a different direction...

I’m consistent with what I say on here. Wood is a decent end of the bench guy. Would like for him to stick around, but where would his minutes even come? He’s not who we want getting heavy minutes as a backup center, and Nicolo makes much more sense as the back up PF considering his ability to space to space the floor. Letting him go is adding to the human element of the sport, agents remember that. Instead of a trade to some team he might not want to play for he can choose his opportunity; but that opportunity wasn’t going to happen here.
The guy in here saying we better hope Hayes is what Wood is is mainly who I’m responding to. But for some reason you’re getting all defensive and trying to argue with me over an objectively stupid comment that I responded to.

I think only one poster really thinks Wood is a key to our success.
I just think he is a more interesting prospect and scouting fit next to Zion.
But I like Okafor as well.
I'm really only taking issue with people that think they have dress down Wood as their path to arguing in favor of this move.

You are literally quoting me saying that stuff, it seems like a pretty reasonable conclusion to draw and feel the need to correct.
I think our biggest disagreement is not seeing minutes for him in the rotation relative to Okafor.
I doubt Hayes plays much, if at all this season. I think it is an open question whether Melli is even a rotational player having never played in the NBA before and being brought in mostly as a utility scheme guy for dribble handoff threes.
I think Wood, realistically, could get spot minutes at PF or center. Which also stems from my belief that he is better than many are selling him as.

I view center minutes as Favors/Okafor and then Zion as a small ball 5 some
PF as Zion/Nicolo with Favors having some minutes and Ingram in some small spurts
At least that’s how I envision it, I could be wrong. They might make another move soon. Hayes is extremely raw and had to get some size and the mental part of the game down like just being able to realize boxing out is more beneficial than relying on athleticism. He might get spot minutes but likely more of a red shirt year for him.

I mean I think that is the current vision.
My point is I personally would have preferred Favors/Zion/Wood and Zion//Ingram/Nicolo/Wood. With Hayes maybe getting some minutes as the season rolls on. But at the end of the day it's arguing over 8 or so minutes in the healthy rotation.
Of course, there is a decent chance at this point in the offseason with so much cap eaten up that Wood will be there to sign if we need him, just as it was possible with Okafor.

I don't know why I have read pages of Wood vs Okafor, as though Griffin were making that decision.
I am telling you that it has been obvious that Wood wanted out. After the draft and the Melli announcement, Wood was tweeting "don't forget about me." He clearly was not happy about being the third option at PF.
If he weren't disgruntled, he would have played in the summer league. I think it's obvious that Wood has some value in the league, and Griffin could have packaged him in a trade deal with Moore, but Wood wanted his freedom now, and Wood isn't worth an asset by himself.
Why are any of you thinking that Wood wanted to be part of the team this year? Because I don't see any evidence of that.

This is a potential narrative that I could buy into.
I'm not dismissing it and haven't.
I'm only speaking to my personal preference, to what I would want to do if I was Griffin. It is possible that what Griffin would have preferred isn't available to him because of this possibility you speak of. It's possible he is choosing Okafor over Wood. Or Williams over Wood.
Or even that we are setting the stage for bringing in some left field move like Vince Carter. All possible. All we can go on responsibly though is what we know....At least until we know more

Yep. And I'm not even mad at Wood. After his performance in the spring, it was reasonable for him to expect to be a rotational player at PF and get the opportunity to play 20 minutes a game.
But Griffin & Co clearly think that a better 3pt shooter at the PF position is what we need. And I agree that when Zion is off the floor, it's good to have a player who can put a different kind of pressure on the opposing team. And this team is still light on shooting.
So, I agree that (in theory) Melli is a better option as Zion's backup than Wood is.
And that's why I don't blame Wood for wanting to go somewhere else where he can get more playing time.

Is everyone forgetting about how Jah looked against scrubs last season? Jah ceiling is way higher than Wood...

I think most of this back and forth is because these guys used to be difference makers on the thin rosters of the Demps era, so picking the right guy between Kenrich/Okafor/Wood mattered a lot more in past years.
