But what was his plan to replace him?

Clearly a BI trade that hasn't materialized yet.

Christian Clark talked about how much the FO loves Jarrett Allen. The most realistic option is trading 2 1sts, or maybe Hawkins and a 1st for Kessler. But I remember seeing somewhere that Utah wants to get Markennan settled before dealing with Kessler, which makes sense.

Those are kind of the options besides getting another minimum level player. WCJ doesn't fit the trade exceptions so you can't get him without being part of a big trade like BI or CJ.

You guys are just going to have to be patient because I think Griff is waiting out Allen or Kessler rather than signing someone like Biyombo or Reed. If they can't find a BI trade over the next several weeks, then it's decision time. Do you overpay for Kessler now, or see how the season starts? I would go ahead and trade 2 1sts for Kessler and a few 2nds, but I can see Griff signing a minimum center and seeing what happens.

I think another poster mentioned this but playing Kessler in summer league is really odd. If the guy gets a major injury- Jazz lose a lot of value for him which makes me think is he really even on the trade block.

The whole Kessler situation is odd. Him being potentially available because he seems in the dog house for no good reason that we can tell from the outside. I know he supposedly has quite a few offensive flaws, maybe he's kind of like Jaxson Hayes and is coasting on his talent which is why they are making him play summer league.

He's equal with Wemby as a rim protector. He's a great rebounder.

But he's a poor shooter, a poor passer, and a poor screen setter. And if anything, he regressed in those areas last season instead of improving.

That's why there's frustration with him in Utah, that's why he's playing summer league, and that's why he's on the block.

I love how Nance is all of a sudden a loss when there was bitching like crazy about him last year

I'm a fan of Larry's heart and leadership. He's a smart player, but his body is really breaking down. He's had so many injuries.

Last season, he started the year horribly -- he was almost unplayable. Then he took a month off with a cracked rib, and during that time, Christian Clark indicated that Larry had a couple of other procedures done.

When he came back, he was awesome. He was the bouncy Larry of old. But, as the year wore on, his body began to wear down again, and he wasn't very good at the end of the season.

Ironically, JV looked great at the start of the season, like he was several years younger. But then, he got slower and slower as the season went on.

Neither of our centers was any good at the end of the season. Willie was experimenting more and more with small-ball lineups, because both JV and Larry sucked by that time.

Now, we've got people here bemoaning the loss of these guys, and I wonder if they really watched the games towards the end of the season.

A large part of that bemoaning is who we’re replacing those guys with. I hope Griffin is not done. But Theis is a third string center who stayed on the bench with pacers and clippers. Missi is a rookie project big. Like I said I hope Griff aint done but right now JV/Nance look a lot better.

Right now as things stand I’d kill to have the JV/Nance combo one last year to give us the time and financial flexibility to then address center. I really really hope they make a proactive move and at least go ahead and lock up the Larry backup role with Paul Reed. He’d be a fantastic fit with this group IMO and he plays his arse off on defense. He’s only 6’9” 210 but he’s got almost comically long arms that allows him to guard 7’ centers and still contest shots.

Lastly, it’s no secret my preferred starting center is Walker Kessler for his rim protection, youth, improving corner 3 shot and most of all his cheap as dirt rookie contract. I wonder what exactly the trade price on him truly is. I’ve seen some people saying 2 1st round picks and a 2nd or role player. For a guy it seems like they are ready to move along from I’m not sure it would cost that much. I would think one unprotected 1st and maybe either a 2nd or a pick swap might get the deal done along with someone to help the salaries match like JRE. If we gave to go dirt cheap this year though I wouldn’t mind giving JRE a shot to play that Larry role. He was a solid role player and spot starter his first 2 years in OKC who put up superior numbers to Larry in points, rebounds, FT% and 3 pt shooting. You always have the old vet Theis to turn to if JRE can’t handle that role but Paul Reed is my 1st choice. What do y’all think Kessler’s trade value is?
