I'm not sure how they reconcile that desire with the need to add a 19 yo to the roster to create a winner.

This was before the prospect of Embid and Parker staying in school came out, but this week Steve Kyler, who normally stays away from rumors and fantasy trades, threw out the idea that trading Kevin Love for a top 5 pick might be the best option for Minnesota if he's going to walk in a few years anyway. I don't know how realistic something like #5 and Rivers for Love actually is, but if we got a top 5 pick I think we'd be more likely to see a move like that than draft a kid that won't blossom until someone else is the GM. Demps may and IMO should survive this year, but he's running out of time to show results too.

I'm anti tank, but only because what it would take for us to tank properly is not good for the franchise. If there were a way to lose enough games while being competitive and showing improvement I'd be all for a 23 win season and keeping the pick. Even if Embid and Parker stay in school, #5 this season > 11-16 next season.

I could see Parker staying. He just seems like he's cut from a different cloth.

Definitely agree with the trade the pick scenario. It's all about the timeline the franchise put itself on. Not a coincidence their core players all have 3 or 4 year contracts. They want to be a relevant team in this window.

If they had kept 6, whoever it was, things are completely different. They would have been saying they have the patience to wait to even compete for the playoffs for another couple of years.

The team that is a close comp is the 10/11 Warriors. And their improvement since then is largely due to continued health of chronically injured players and Curry becoming a walking supernova, not the fact that they got to keep Barnes.

To be sure, the Pelicans need an upgrade in talent. They are an inflexible team. It's small combo guards and, outside of Davis, poor rebounding, slow footed bigs. Unless you've got a dominant center, you need positional flexibility on the wing. Aminu and Miller are nice rotation players, but they are not enough.

Did you get to watch last night? Withey looked pretty nimble. Although his limited stats rebounding numbers do look pretty weak.

That's sort of the way I feel. And I think there's a very decent chance that both Embid and Parker stay in school, btw.

If we somehow end up with a top five pick, yeah, I think the likelihood is that it would be traded (assuming there's a willing partner and an asset that feels one of our crucial needs). This team could use a veteran "semi-star".

I saw the 2nd and 3rd and couldn't take any more after that.

Withey did look good last night and v Memphis. He definitely needs to play more.

Will be interesting to see what they do with Smiht. Fan favorite, lots of effort, but flawed and hurt every year. Don't believe he is better than Anjica and not sure he is better than Withey.

Better shot, but other than that I agree.

Given time, that could be true. The guy will get better only if he plays.
