You would hope it’s not serious. Ask any coach of any team in this league and you would get the same answer every time.

He hasn’t shot well recently, which for Devontae is key. But he has played solid defense and not turned the ball over. AD has consistently talked about how well he has played. For some reason he has become the guy everyone here wants to blame.
He started the season very well, but over the last 2 months or so, he's been bad.

Is saying he has played solidly saying we can’t find someone who would be an upgrade??
I say this without hyperbole, if you're going to be a 28% shooter and 20% from 3, you're going to need to facilitate like CP3 and play on ball defense like Tony Allen to be a solid contributor who deserves minutes. He is neither of those.
What he is doing well, or ok, does not make up for his shooting the past 23 games. He is objectively a below average basketball player right now.

Yes , his shooting has been really bad; which hopefully will turn around if he continues to be in Willie’s rotation. His defense has been solid and his facilitating has been surprisingly good ( an over 4 to 1 assist/ TO ratio). No one gives him credit for that. Which is the point of my defending him.

quote:One funny thing from when CJ was struggling, a few posters(1 in particular who shall remain unnamed lol) constantly harped on the bad shots CJ would take early in the shot clock. I constantly replied to those stating they were simply mad that the shots weren't going in and never complained when he had a good game.
Chiming in to say that CJ is balling out so hard right now that I think we have a punchers chance against the C’s on Wednesday.
They argued vociferously that this wasn't true. But it's funny to see that CJ is obviously taking just as many and very likely more of those "bad" shots early in the clock over the last 10-20 games, but I haven't heard a single complaint from that group of posters about CJ's decision making on bad shots early in the shot clock in this span.
Funny how that works.

CJ's last 16 games, which are after the awful 3 games from when he returned from COVID:
25.7 ppg
4.8 rpg
5.8 apg
46.5 FG%
47.1% from 3 on 8.5 attempts per game
But he has that 1 lazy turnover every game and isn't approaching 10 assists per game, BUM!!!

I think a lot of posters just haven't seen CJ play much. Last season I remember people being outraged in a game thread when he took a contested, off balance 3 and missed. He took the exact same shot the game before and it went in.
Ingram ran into the same resistance here until after 2 years enough fans saw enough "bad shots" go in that they realize "he's pretty good at that, let him shoot what he wants to shoot."

I know you’re being sarcastic, but unfortunately that’s exactly how it works.

I seen a twitter post the other day where CJ is in the top 3-4 in “bad shots” taken and made

CJ is shooting the lights out from 3. When BI is back, and they are on the court at the same time, good things will happen.

It's that, and the fact that he was injured early in the season, and some of those folks for whatever reason refused to take that into account.
