So excluding Brown, Ben, Ingram, and Bender.
Mines in order

Murray- good size a strong guard very explosive with a nice shot

Luwawu- you already know

Poeltl- athletic passing defensive center we need.

Dunn- Would be #1 but injury prone, has great size and is explosive.

Heild- not sold on him but has a low floor and can be serviceable.

I want Hield. I don't want the other 4 guys you listed. Just Hield.

And i want Valentine.

This is why I don't like Heild as MM explained.

quote:

He scores because he has an amazing stroke and a quick release, and quite frankly, because he is smarter than everyone else on the floor. He takes advantage of young, undisciplined defenders who don’t locate him on the break or off of a scramble when his team gets an offensive rebound. What I don’t see is an amazing first step that allows him to get by defenders. I also don’t see a guy physical enough to finish in NBA traffic.

quote:

Defensively, he will try, but he won’t be Klay Thompson. He doesn’t have the size or the lateral quickness to be elite on that end, and the best you can probably hope for is that he doesn’t hurt you there.

quote:

At the end of the day, you want shooting around Anthony Davis, and Hield’s numbers this year (49% from deep on nearly 9 attempts) say that he can be elite on that end. But I would proceed with caution. First of all, he was an average 3-point shooter over the three years prior to this one. Secondly, I don’t love his stroke. He pushes the ball too much for my liking; It’s not a natural, smooth stroke. I think his shot could get blocked more in the pros, and I also wonder if he can maintain his accuracy with the line a few feet further back.

But for some reason people think he's Lillard and people forget how quick and explosive as Lillard is. When I see Heild i see a college kid playing a bunch of teenagers at the park.

My favorite prospect might be Trade Back. Trading back probably means you miss Hield and Murray, but I'd love to be able to get 2 of Valentine/Luwawu/Prince.

Except for that injury history.

I would be all for trading back with a team like Denver and grab Luwawu plus another guy.

What credibility does MM have in analyzing someone's shot? Sounds like he just wrote that to express an unpopular opinion to try and rile people up to get some site traffic.

Tyler Ulis is there in the 2nd round of the mock drafts, that would be a nice steal.

Buddy Hield can come in and contribute immediately. I think he's got a sneaky good shot at being similar to DWade with more range and less athleticism.

The NBA game will open up his slashing game more, which is tougher to show in college.

And the NBA is full of elite defenders?
On our team he would be the 3rd option at best. Not asking him to be the next Curry or Dwayne Wade.

What I don’t see is an amazing first step that allows him to get by defenders.

When you can shoot from the 3, it's not that hard to get around guys.

quote:

I also don’t see a guy physical enough to finish in NBA traffic.

I can agree with that.

Defensively, he will try, but he won’t be Klay Thompson. He doesn’t have the size or the lateral quickness to be elite on that end, and the best you can probably hope for is that he doesn’t hurt you there.

He's proven that he's a workhorse. Being a good defender isn't always about having the physical tools to be great. If that was the case JR smith should have been an awesome defender. We know the guy is smart and will give the effort and that's a half the battle, and he's still athletic enough to be a good defender in the NBA.

quote:

First of all, he was an average 3-point shooter over the three years prior to this one.

He shot 39% two years ago and 36% last year. I wouldn't call that average. His 24% as a freshman wasn't good.
Guys can become better shooters. That shouldn't be a knock on them for letting someone show them how to use their skills better and put in the practice to become elite at it like Hield has.

quote:

Secondly, I don’t love his stroke. He pushes the ball too much for my liking; It’s not a natural, smooth stroke. I think his shot could get blocked more in the pros, and I also wonder if he can maintain his accuracy with the line a few feet further back.

Like Kevin Martin, who had 7 seasons shooting over 38% in the NBA, averaged over 20ppg in 7 straight seasons, who has an ugly pushed shot like he's 12 years old, who shot 32% from the 3 in his 4 years in college?

He's the runaway Player of the Year in college. We know he's a hard worker. We know he's got a fire in him. We know he can shoot. And we know he's a leader. How often does the player of the year not turn out to be a good nba player at worst? I'll tell you who, the last few white guys and Ed O'Bannon. The only black player that won player of the year that didn't amount to anything in the last 25 years was TJ Ford and Jay Williams, and that's b/c of injuries.

I feel the exact same way about him.

MM was one of the biggest Heild supporters. To many people whatch his game and see him scoring but not how it will translate when the defenders are bigger, stronger, and faster than him.

I rather a player that can be the best in this class 3 years from now than contribute immediately.

Everyone was bigger, faster, and stronger than Reggie Miller.

Contributing immediately precludes him from potentially being the best in his class?

Steph Curry will never be able to get his shot off in the NBA.

He's not tough enough to finish around the rim.

He's not a good enough athlete.
