Stunningly, after going undrafted and appearing in just 12 of New Orleans’ first 48 games, it’s taken Williams only two weeks of significant playing time for Pelicans teammates such as Jrue Holiday to describe the 24-year-old as “a star, really. Someone who can come out and fill up the stat sheet. Offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds… he can lock up your best player.”

Amid an array of New Orleans injuries and other distractions, Williams has emerged as a welcomed bright spot on the court, averaging a well-rounded 12.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 blocks since he began logging major minutes seven games ago. During the same stretch, he’s shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range, helping the Pelicans remain competitive by contributing in virtually every category.

...“That’s what I want to do every game,” said Williams, soft-spoken off the court, but relentless on it. “I want to come out and play hard, get all of the 50-50 balls. Give it all I’ve got every time I’m on the court. It’s just a blessing to get the opportunity to come out and show what I can do. My main thing is go out and play hard. I let everything else take care of itself. Whatever happens, happens.”

You can’t help but root for the guy. Great story.

Sounds like the kind of player the NOLA fans embrace.

Remember “Beerman” Michael Lewis, the kick returner for the Saints? Or Joe Horn? Both were pretty much castoffs who caught on in NOLA and had lots of fans.

So Gentry and staff deserve some credit for developing this kid or no?

I like the staff in its entirety and think it'd be difficult to get an actual upgrade. I'm more attached to Finch than Gentry, but everyone that hates Gentry's lax attitude thinks we can replace him with a task master and the team would automatically become more disciplined. I don't think that's the case at all, if you want a disciplined team you need to add disciplined players. The Spurs may turn nobodies into somebodies, but they don't turn just anybody into somebody, they have a very specific type of player they target, and those players rarely seem to have more talent than work ethic and character.

Kenrich Williams stood out to me early in the season because high BBIQ and high motor stand out on this team like a sore thumb. If the Pels can manage to shift from a Kentucky core to a Duke core I think we'll see a dramatic shift in execution regardless of who's coaching next season. Did y'all see Frank telling Jason Smith "yes sir" when Smith was giving him some advice? Coach K goes after an entirely different type of player than Cal.

I'm hesitant to say this but his rebounding reminds me of Rodman it's juts uncanny how he can get an offensive rebound in the middle of the entire other team

I did. I immediately thought, I don't want to trade Frank.

most guys would probably be like "oh yeah, thanks man" and then turn around and say in their head "I don't need lessons from Jason fricking Smith" and completely forget what he just said.

It's why we need to add guys like Garrett Temple in the offseason. he's someone we can sign, and he'd probably be happy to be here.
If the Nuggets don't move forward with Milsaps team option, I'd like him as well. Bring in two Louisiana guys that can take some pride in helping rebuild this franchise, and do it with good worth ethic. Wouldn't mind overpaying for Milsaps even at his age, with the idea that we are grooming young guys for the future. You pay Jrue and Milsaps and the rest are guys making under double digit millions.
I'm sure Milsaps would be happy with a 2/$45 if the Nuggets aren't going to keep him.
