Marcus averaging 21/3/2 and shooting over %50 since being traded to Sacramento and getting starter minutes.

I'm getting a sick feeling thinking about dealing Collison/Thornton.

Thornton's going to do quite well in Sacramento. Monty definitely mismanaged the situation. The tough love should have ended after about game 15. Despite having lots of room for improvement, all indications are that he was on board and working on everything asked of him and that's about all you can expect. The silver lining is that we made a relatively lateral move that also acts as DWest insurance.

If Thornton didn't have the home ties there wouldn't be near as much scrutiny or criticism of the trade. And his success with the Kings needs to be taken with a grain of salt. The style of basketball that will maximize his productivity is not winning basketball in the NBA. Of all the guys he's compared to only Jason Terry is an integral part of a successful team. All the others, Ben Gordon, JR Smith, Monta Ellis, Kevin Martin, have spent their careers as either minor parts of decent teams or big parts of bad to mediocre teams. I don't think that's a coincidence.

I hope I am wrong, but maybe Chris Paul was jeolous that Thornton was becoming the fan favorite and wanted him to leave

I doubt it cause CP3 use to feed him the ball whenever he was on the court.

I know, but all these rumors about he did not like him. Don't know if true or not

I don't know about that, but I always got the feeling that the two didn't like each other. It looked to me like MT didn't like CP trying to "coach" him.

Seemed like Marcus always blew CP off and CP never would congratulate him or celebrate with him after big plays.

Not saying that this lead to MT getting shipped off, but they definitely didn't have the best chemistry.

Oh really? you haven't seen Marcus play before these two games?

I have. Clearly the ONE shooter/scorer this team HAD. Fool yourself into thinking whatever the Hornets front office does is perfect. It was a dumb move to give up a player who could explode for a player that isn't going to explode scoring wise, EVER.

no panic, it's called reality. Seems like some who will remain nameless (coughJayJaycough) enjoy not believing what they see with their own eyes and like to be led by the nose to what the team believes or wants you to be believe. JMO.

My 2 cents is that this team feels like it needed more interior presence for the playoffs, and Thornton was most marketable. So it had to be done.

I mean, yes Thornton could get his own shot, but you're all talking about him like he was absolutely the next coming of Kobe or something.

He, like Landry, is a solid NBA role player. Nothing more.

I agree with some of your post. Yes team needed inside help. But IMO Landry is no better than 3 or 4 of the "buyout" guys the Hornets could have at least attempted to get and keep the ONE player they have that can create on his own.

No one is acting like he is Kobe but look at this team. What other player is able to get his "own" shot? Thats what the NBA IS, getting your own shot.

totally disagree. Thornton had/has limits but more than a role player.

For all those who think only LSU fans think MT is a player:

LINK

quote:

At a point, familiarity with a team’s system takes a back seat to flat-out talent, and there’s no question that Thornton is a gifted scorer. He has been with Sacramento for less than a week, but a trip to the West Coast did not make Thornton any less of a dynamo.

He dropped 29 points on the unsuspecting Clippers, including 16 in a decisive fourth-quarter effort. Thornton was responsible for 21 of Sacramento’s 27 points in the final frame, as he played brilliantly on the break, posting up on the block, and attacking from the perimeter.

pretty sure that's a unbiased take
