Absolutely not how it went down seeing as how Zion was already in great shape before Joe got here. Him getting in this shape started last season

Looks good... can he finally stay on the court is the big question
Being in shape is pretty irrefutably the #1 precursor for staying healthy.

I think David griffin just treated him with kid gloves on in the first few seasons, they just did whatever it took to make sure he’s happy, like an ugly dude trying to please a girlfriend way out of his league “ohhh you think your mom should be your dietician Zion? Well yeah that sounds like a really smart idea!”
By the time griff maybe tried to come down on him, it was too late. He was a lame duck Zion didn’t respect
Zion is an immature man child but we were not an ideal landing spot to change that

Yes, I don't know how much credit to actually give to Dumars. Zion said in the press conference yesterday that his current training regimen started with his rehab from his last injury, and we saw some of the results of it at the end of last season, and that same regimen just continued through the summer, with better and better results.
So, if you believe Zion, this doesn't really have much to do with Dumars at all. But, although what Zion is saying definitely makes some sense, I don't think that it's the full story or explains everything.
