It is going to be laughed at by everyone not from Louisiana, mainly because no one knows what it is and it sounds like some goofy made up Cajun word. The main reason I'm opposed is that I myself think it's awful, though. I didn't really oppose Pelicans after I thought about it for a while, but I really can't see myself ever liking this name.
ETA: Just naming ourselves the Werewolves wouldn't be too bad IMO.

My vote is PELICANS.
I think its silly to have the rougaroos and they would never go along with this, but if they did I would be all for it.
